Babies: 6 - 9 Months

6 Month Solids

So DS is 6 months today!  Time is flying!

I was just wondering what most of you are feeding your LO's in regards to solids and when you introduced certain foods!

Currently DS usually gets a veggie (either green beans or sweet potatoes) for lunch and a fruit (banana or avacado) for dinner.  We have only tried a few foods so far so I was wondering what else was probably safe to try now that we are at the 6 month mark.  He absolutely loves bananas, those seem to be his favorite as of right now.  :)

Re: 6 Month Solids

  • Hi ! My son is 7 months and has been on solids since about 4 1/25 months old . We actually make his food at home as well which sounds like you might with the avocado. The first food he had was avocado, then bananas of course , then we went to Sweet Potato which he hated til now . He had Apples , Pears, Sweet Peas Carrots also by 6 months. Now at 7 months he also has blueberry mixed with apple . We combine things more like sweet pea /carrot, green bean/squash. He also has had peaches this week . And per doctor can have plain yogurt as well now . Hope that helps!

  • I do make his food at home.  Its so simple and costs way less!  I'm thinking of having him try carrots this week, so that sounds great!  Thanks for all of the suggestions!  :)
  • Our pediatrician recommended doing the orange vegetables first, then green veggies, then fruits.  So we started with just plain rice cereal, then I started adding in purees.  He had squash, sweet potatoes, and carrots.  Sometimes mixed with baby oatmeal and sometimes just by themselves.  Then I moved onto green veggies, he's had pureed green beans and pees.  He doesn't really like peas.  He's tried peaches and pears, both times they were mixed with baby oatmeal.  Now that's tried all of that and had it all plenty of times, I've tried other baby foods like a chicken and noodle puree and he liked that.  Mixed veggies, he wasn't a fan of that one.  I also made one myself that was an acorn squash that I roasted and then pureed with a little bit of cinnamon and banana and he loved that.
