GD insulin controlled

If you have had to add insulin, how do they treat you at OB office differently from dietcontrolled? And I saw somewhere that it's the norm to be induced at 38 weeks with insulin. Any truth to that?

I'm currently dietcontrolled but am having problems with fasting number, so it looks like I'll have to do bedtime insulin.

Thanks!

Re: GD insulin controlled

  • With my DS I was insulin controlled, and my OB's policy is to induce at 39 weeks for ALL GD patients.

     GL to you.

  • Being insulin controlled earned me extra monitoring (NSTs, BPPs) at about 34-36 weeks, and inductions at 39 weeks. I would absolutely not let them induce before 39 weeks.

  • I'm on insulin. I've been getting BPPs 2x/week since 32 weeks. I will be induced by 39weeks, but after spending this morning in L&D for monitoing, I'm thinking it might be sooner. GL momma!

  • I really think it depends on the doctor and maybe your location.

I've been insulin controlled since 32 weeks and asked about this.  My OB said that she doesn't feel there is any reason, at this time, to induce unless babies growth is extreme.  I have been doing bi-weekly NST's and extra ultrasounds for growth.  As long as those are good, baby stays in.  She goes strictly by the approximate weights on the ultrasounds to determine what will happen and stated that she won't let me go past 40 weeks.

    Good Luck!
