Lilian or Lillian?

Our front runner right now is Lilian or Lillian but I was looking for opinions about spelling. nn would of course be Lily so the single L spelling seems to make more sense to me (?) Middle name we are thinking of is Avery, last name is 1 syllable, begins with S.

Lillian. Everyone will always assume two (or I guess three) l's. This is coming from the mother of a Philip, by the way.

Lillian, with the double L.

It's way more common to have the double L in that name, so most people will just assume its that spelling. It'll be less work correcting people on her part.

Funny the consensus is 2 L's. When I was pg. with DD#2 Lillian was one of the top names we had picked out. When I posted on this board I got flamed for 2 L's.

However, we went with Lillian. It just looks better on paper. BTW we were going to NN Lily but she is still Lillian- you might change your mind.
