S/O TV

Am I the only one who's LO couldn't care any less about tv? We've tried, he doesn't care. He will face time Elmo or watch Barney sing on YouTube, but that's really it.

  • Have you tried some Bubble Guppies? We started that recently and she's obsessed! All her other faves were only about 12-15 min tops and that's just not a long enough distraction! With the 25 min bubble guppies, I can get laundry done, or get an entire room cleaned up, or a shower...my life has never been the same!

  • The longest Audra has paid attention to the TV is maybe 10 minutes. She's more apt to watch if there's singing music but she would never watch a whole 1/2 hour show as of yet. She's recently gotten in to watching Strawberry Shortcake on The Hub channel so maybe that will change soon.

Not the only one. He'll come in to watch the opening credits if there's music, but usually he just goes to his room and plays if the TV is on. I can't imagine him sitting still and watching a whole show.

This is Paul, as well. He likes music, but other then that he could care less.

  • We've tried and he just doesn't care. Everyone says the Bubble Guppies but he just walks away. The only thing that he'll remotely watch is Baby Einstein DVDs. But really he only stops to dance for like a minute and he goes back to playing

  • It really depends on the show. We have a few favorites that I can always count on to buy me some time if needed. With anything else he pretty much does what others have described... watch a few minutes then go about his business.
  • A will watch Sesame Street when Elmo comes on.  And she'll dance and clap along to music/clapping.  But to actually watch a show, it doesn't usually happen.  If its just her and I at home, I'm more likely to just put the radio on or turn the tv to one of the music channels anyways.

  • Ian doesn't watch tv either.  I turn it on cartoons for him sometimes, just to see if he will...something that has lots of music, singing, and dancing, he could care less.  However, if I have it on, and a commercial with a catchy tune comes on, he'll spin around and watch the commercial for a few seconds, but that's about it.

  • We're crazy, and don't really watch tv:S DH will sometimes pull out old classic disney movies and put them on, but ds just kind of plays and glances up from time to time.
  • The TV is rarely on here, but I have actually tried to get DS to watch and he's not into it.  DD is addicted to Roku, and she has tried to find things DS will watch.  I am soooo relieved DS won't watch it.  The AAP recommendations changed and I would have such Mommy guilt if DS watched - and not for the reason you may think.  So I read the recs, and they resonated with me - they weren't just some random recommendation.  My second daughter was TV obsessed as a toddler, and her attention span is not great now.  I think it totally depends on the child, and with this last baby, I am so glad he made the choice for me and the issue is moot.

  • DD loves Mickey Mouse and Pound Puppies.  She probably watches a total of an hour for the week.  She loves Mickey and if she is just having a rough day I will turn it on so I can get dinner cooked without her screaming on my feet.  Pound Puppies is usually a Saturday morning thing so I can get showered and dressed.  She has to get breathing treatments and Mickey is the only way to get her to calm down and not take the mask off.

  • So I thought Allison watched TV until I read this thread!  She will watch for the music and maybe 5 minutes...maybe...of a show but that is all.  There are a few little shorts on the baby channel (DirecTV) that she will watch but rarely the whole 2 minute segment.

Ironically, I had the TV on all.the.time on maternity leave and when we are home it is usually on for background noise or the news.  So maybe she is just used to it?  I don't know.

Now the computer is another story...show that girl a slideshow of her own pictures and she will sit there for days!

  • PJ has just legitimately started watching Sesame Street.  And by legitimately, I mean, he will watch the tv for a good 3 minutes, take a break to play, watch for another 3 minutes, etc.  Although, he LOVES Elmo and Grover, so if they are on, he will watch longer.
