Wholesale Clubs?

Morning!

My BJ's membership is expiring this month so I am considering switching to Sam's Club...
We primarily use it for formula, diapers/wipes, TP/Paper towels, and food like ketchup, ranch, pasta/sauce etc.

What are your thoughts on wholesale clubs? Have you joined either or both?

I already know that BJ's takes manufacturers coupons and formula checks where some report that Sam's doesn't. Membership fee is slightly higher at BJ's ($10) but they send coupons everymonth... does Sam's Club do this?

Anything else you'd like to add?

TIA!

Re: Wholesale Clubs?

  • I saw where someone calculated out the savings and added the membership and somehow the calculation was not worth it to join in the end.

  • Hi,

We belong to Sam's and use it for the same reasons you list above, diapers, wipes, some food, and paper products, and cleaning supplies.

Sam's doesn't' send coupons, and they don't' take manufacturers coupons. The do send you a summary to show you what you save each year, and it is worth it to us. We don't have a BJs near us, but they are not building a Costco,so we may check it out to see if we like it better, but as we just renewed our membership we may wait until it is closer to the time to renew it...also the savings may wash out, but being able to buy in bulk sure cuts down on my regular grocery shopping time and that is more than worth it to me!

yes!  this also!  not heading to target every week DEF saves us  money as I'm not grabbing lil things here and there that I'm apparently not missing out on just because I needed TP!  That's one of my biggest loves of this!  I hate shopping!  LOL  and spending money that I don't need to spend!  Thx!

  • I think it is completely worth it - I compare prices all the time at the grocery store and most of the toiletry items are half the price.  My husband drives alot for work and the savings in gas basically pays for the membership.  I buy meat there too which is cheaper unless there is a sale and granted there are so,e things not worth it but for the most part yes.

  • We don't have a BJ's near us but we do have Costco and Sams.  For us Costco is worth it for the produce alone.  I appreciate that they have a lot of organic options and they send out coupons.  I have also had great luck with their photo department and Christmas Cards.  I think Sams sucks, but that's just me, fwiw I also hate Walmart so that probably has a lot to do with it.  :)  Memberships at Costco are 55.00 for the year, we definitely make up that in savings.

  • We have memberships at both Costco and Sams...each has specific items that we like that the other doesn't carry, and each has some of the same items but one place has better pricing. For example, Sams has by far better pricing on deodorant the same package of 4 sticks is $14 at Costco and only $8 at Sams. I have found baby wipes cheaper at Sams also.

Since we basically only shop at these two places and Aldi. The memerships are worth it. Buying in bulk cuts down on us buying uneeded extra items we would normally buy if we were shopping more frequently and stores with even more selection. Savings on gas (often 10 or more cents a gallon) also definitely adds up. We don't buy fuel anywhere else unless we are traveling. At Costco we pay for their premium membership that returns a percentage of your purchases (not including fuel) to you in a check every year. So far, we have always gotten a check back that covers the cost of the membership ($100)

  • I just today got a Sama membership. I'm not to crazy about paying to shop anywhere, but there is a deal on Living Social for a one year membership for $45 plus you get a $20 gift card and $20 in free food. I thought for a deal that good I would give it a try.
  • I like bj's better
