ER was VERY painful

Did anyone else have lidocaine injected into the cervix before retrieving the eggs? That was the most painful thing I have ever experienced. The needle to retrieve the eggs didn't hurt at all, though.

    Sorry for the random blurt. I have no helpful info. My retrieval will probably be next week. I hope I am asleep for this part! I hope you are feeling better!

    I was given "conscious sedation" through IV; Medazolam and Fentanyl. I felt a little "drunkish" after given those meds, but when the doctor was poking me with the needle in my cervix, OH MAN. I was yelling and balling and hyperventilating. Once that part was done, it was all good. If I have to do ER again, I am going to insist that they don't give me that needle.

    There was also another woman having ER right after me, and when DH and I were leaving, we could hear her yelling too. I don't know what the deal is. That's why I wanted to see if anyone else had the same experience.

    Wow that sounds horrible! I was sedated for mine....don't remember anything. Is there a reason why they didn't use anesthesia? Get some rest and I hope you feel better soon!

    I was put under anesthesia and don't remember a thing. I think that's the way they do things now I didn't know that they still let you stay awake. Sorry that would of been horrible!!!

    Feb'12- July'12-testing(all clear minus slight arcuate ute), 3 IUI with clomid all BFN
    8/30IVF#1 Antagonist protocol- ER 9/11-8R, 7M, 5F. 
    ET 9/14 2 embies transferred. 1 10cell Grade 4, 1 8cell Grade 4. No frosties. BFN
    IVF#2 Antagonist protocol plus baby aspirin- ER 12/5-16R, 12M, 8F!
    ET 12/10 5dt! 1 fully expanded blast & 1 early blast. No frosties. BFN
    3/13 hysteroscopy & polypectomy, Consulted w Dr. Kwak-Kim.  
    DX: High NK cells, cytokines, DHEAs& PAI1;  hypothyroid, +APA, restricted bloodflow
    7/13 IVF#3 Long lupron protocol with PIO, Crinone, Prometrium, and vivelle

    Sounds like their conscious sedation was a little light! All I remember was the doc walking into he room and telling me I was going to feel warm water. Next I knew I was in recovery fully dressed with no recollection of how I got there. They needed to have given you more drugs!! Sorry it was painful!

    On "egg health" cocktail DHEA/CoQ10/FRC/Pregnitude/Melatonin
    Starting IVF #2 for Feb 2013
    Follistim/Menopur/Ganirelix
    Cancelled mid-cycle due to high P4 levels early on.
    OCPs again for IVF 2.5 mid-March. IVF 2.5 transferred two "gorgeous" 5-day blasts and BFFN. Even REI is baffled
    On indefinite hold until a huge stroke of serendipity led me to IVF 3 May 2014
    Testing found positive cardiolipins/APS, now on lovenox and intralipid infusions
    Transfer of 2 5-day blasts and (FINALLY) BFFP!! 1st ultrasound shows two sacs and two HB, but one is sluggish, almost expecting vanishing twin Subsequent ultrasound confirmed vanishing twin, but my other Little critter looks fantastic!

    Yes, you definitely needed more meds! That's crazy.

    10/11: after 2 years, saw a RE, FSH 5.4
    11/11: BFP! (surprise after thyroid & normal hsg),
    12/11: missed m/c after 7 week u/s, 1/12: D&C
    6/12 IUI#1-IUI #3: clomid = BFP!, C/P
    IVF #1(10/12) FSH 5.4, AFC: 16 long Lupron, 5R/5M/4F, all 4 made it to 5dt, 1 blast/1-8 cell transferred=BFN
    IVF #2(12/12)AFC 21, MD lupron, 4R/4M/3F, 5dt of 1 blast and 2-8cell. BFN.
    IVF#3(4/13) Natural start antagon protocol, 12R,11F. one PGS normal at day 6 transfer. BFN.
    IVF#4 (11/13) C.CRM (ODW.U normal 8/13 Still no Diagnosis) EPP/antagonist. ER 13R/7M/6F. Only 1 made it to freeze. Abnormal. Looking into options of DE, Fresh vs frozen.
    10/14 new local RE to look into what's next. CD3 FSH 4.7, AMH 0.9. Met with DE agencies and exploring options for feb/march 2015.
    Surprise natural bfp (4 days before donor is signed). Beta #1 at 9dpo: 51.8, 2nd beta: 195 (25 hours doubling) @11dpo. 3rd beta (12/15): 516 (35 hrs doubling) 4th beta(12/17): 895 (58 hours doubling) 5th beta(12/19): 2120. U/S at 5w0d(12/22): one gestational sac with yolk sac. U/S #2 (6w0d)12/29. One little bean measuring 6w0d with HR 124. 3rd u/s(1/4)7w0d: baby measuring 7w2d. HR 134. 3/30: A/S at MFM went great except for low lying placenta. Verifi results are normal! Team Blue! Please send any positive thoughts our way! EDD:8/24/2015

    It sounds like you had a rough ER.  Unfortunately midazolam only works in 80% of the population.  Midazolam is a hypnotic drug that helps you not remember the pain.  My boss at work went in for a colonoscopy and the midazolam didn't work on him.  He remembers everything :(  So sorry.

    I'm so sorry you had to go through that!  I was completely out for ER.  All I remember was waking up from a nice nap with a container of animal crackers and a warm blanket.  Aside from being sore, it was actually pretty nice.

    I don't care what the 'norm' is where you are, you should definitely be asking for more sedation next time (although hopefully you won't need a next time).  I'm a wuss about pain so even my dentist goes a little Novocaine-happy whenever I need work done.  I would hope that a good RE would be at least as considerate about my ute as the dentist is about my mouth.

    Your experience is definitely not the norm.  I've had 4 ERs and I don't remember anything other than the ceiling starting to spin a bit and then waking up in a different room.
     TTC #1 since 6/09

    oh wow, i'm so sorry you went through that!  I was sedated and pretty much asleep.  They gave me fentanyl, propofol, versed and something else.  I told the anesthesiologist that I tend to have recall of the events during conscious sedation so he said he'd give me more if I needed it.  Turned out I didn't and it was fabulous.  I would like some of that every day. 

    If you ever have to go through that again, please make sure to tell them you may need more meds, you shouldn't have had the pain.  Even if you were semi-awake you wouldn't have cared about it if you had the proper meds.  Good luck!

    Honestly I dont know what they gave me...I get Versed and I'm knocked the eff out, LOL

    The crazy thing is that during it, when I was screaming, the doctor told them to give me the maximum dose. So they gave me more, but the pain didn't let up until he was done with that stupid lidocaine needle in my cervix. The aspiration needle for the eggs just felt a little uncomfortable, not painful.

    I hope I don't need a next time, but if I do, I am going to insist that they do something different with the meds.

    My gosh that sounds like a horrific experience! I was conscious the whole time during my ER. I don't know what they gave me though. I was only uncomfortable at most. I agree with PP. That sounds like a horror movie!
