CCRM consult....finally

I rescheduled a few times...then they rescheduled a few times....today I finally got Dr. Surrey on the phone.

Don't get me wrong, he was super nice and seemed very knowledgeable. I guess I just thought I'd hear a choir of angels sounding after I hung up with anyone at CCRM, LOL ...kidding of course,

He agrees with my current RE that quality is my issue, which others have agreed also. He thinks its a good idea to cycle in another location to see if my embryos just don't want to grow in the current RE's lab. If we cycle at CCRM, or just anywhere else, and our embryos still refuse to grow then obviously its all an issue with me and my eggs. Basically, he recommended karyotyping, a sperm frag test, and CCS with our embryos (provided we'd get embryos to grow to blast....thats a big if).

Having him say that I should cycle in another place to see if the lab is partially to blame....that makes me feel better about cycling elsewhere. I'm comfortable with my choice to give a local RE a try and see what he can do. If next year this time I'm still sitting here banging my head against the wall then I guess it'll be a choice of DE or going to CCRM.

At least I talked to them and feel better now that my 2nd opinion project is complete

Glad you got the answers you want. Question though why not just go with the best and not waste anymore time or money?

Good question

Well I just started a new job and dont have any vacation time until next year. Any time off is without pay plus I don't want to rock the boat in a new position taking so much time off to go out to Colorado. With the cost of missing work and cost of flying there it'd be really tough to do right now.

Another reason is that DH's insurance is fan-freakin-tastic and has unlimited cycles and pretty soon we'll be at our max out of pocket and not owe for upcoming cycles.....sooooooo, I figure if I can cycle locally with a different protocol and lab , that would be our least expensive option for now...and maybe I'll get lucky. Oooooh, I hope I hope I hope

Glad it went ok! Wow to having unlimited IF coverage...that's amazing... I live in MA and feel so blessed that we have the coverage we do, which is great, but its not unlimited. Good luck in your search for a new clinic and hope that it works wonders for you!

oh.... and good luck in your new job too! How's your adorable puppy handling mom not being home anymore? :-)

She is soooooo mad at me!!! This is my 3rd week and she's starting to forgive me for leaving her but my first week gone, she wouldn't sit by me on the couch when I came home. Plus, when I'd call her name and say "Come here" she'd put her head down and go lay by my husbands feet!!! Such a personality!!!

I think there is something assuring about talking to them. We did the same thing - he didn't tell us that he thought it was the lab (probably b/c we had already been to two REs when I talked to them). But one of my friends talked to them and he thought it could have been a problem with the media her lab used to freeze her DEmbryos. I don't think they have a lot of faith in other peoples labs - LOL.

Good conversations can lead to new opportunities and I'm glad it went well.

They are definitely biased towards their lab, but I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing. I would hope that other major clinics would be as well.

LMAO....that is kinda how I look today as I've become the resident IT professional for today's snow storm and have my coworkers calling me to set up their IP phones, too bad I got lucky with mine and have the only working phone LOL.....Ahhhhh!!!

Well,yay for getting a second opinion. Mine with ccrm is 2 weeks away now and I'm getting excited! I don't blame you a bit for staying close to home, especially with that fantastic coverage you have. My problem is spending the money for ccrm if we decide to go there, as we could get at least 2 cycles for that much close to home. Anyway, did he recommend any protocol changes for you at all? What did he say about boosting egg quality? Supplements recommended?

Can you (or anyone) tell me more about the sperm frag test? Are other clinics doing it? I'm interested to get DH's done, but don't know how to go about it...

Sounds like your consult really helped you solidify your plan, which is great. And you're totally right that CCRM is always there in the future, if you want to change things up. Good luck!
