couple questions second iui

This will be my second iui and I am on meds this time around. I am on progesterone and will take my last dose on Friday. From there I am to wait for my period to start and start Clomid on cd3. On cd10 I go for an ultra sound, typically how soon after an ultrasound on cd10 would you expect to get a trigger shot done? Of course its pending everything looks good at the ultrasound.

Thanks

Me-

7 IUI- 2 CP- 2 BFN

RPL blood work 12/27, showed a balance translocation in chromosome 11;22

Spouse-

PCOS 4 IUI-4 BFN

New Plan: Reciprocal IVF, me as carrier wife's eggs. Just went through insurance and received partial approval, so my part will go through my IVF benefits and wife's part will be out of pocket. Now just finalizing finance plans to cover the oop costs. Doctors office is in process of moving to a new building so there are no IVF start ups until March/April 2015.

  • Well just one question any ways

  • In my experience it depends on the size of your follies. If your follies are mature 14mm + (for my RE anyway) then I would trigger that evening and come back the next day for the iui. Now if my follies were smaller, he would judge when to do the shot based on the fact that they grow approx 2mm per day.

    Hope that helps

  • Like Twinkler said, it depends on the size of the follicle. Our RE triggers later than 14mm, (I think she looks for it to be 18mm-20mm). I think last cycle we triggered on day 12 in the evening and inseminated on day 14 in the morning.
    ****loss discussed*****

We're queer. I'm 33, have severe stage 4 endo, and had both fallopian tubes removed. My love ("Manada" on the boards, 32) was diagnosed with diminished ovarian reserve. We did Partner IVF (my eggs, her uterus). We lost our twins Tavin and Casey at 21 weeks gestation.

    Our IUIs
with @Manada: IUI# 1-7 (December 2012- September 2013) all BFN. Tried natural, femara, clomid, puregon/follistim, clomid and menopur combo, both the ovidrel and HCG triggers.

    Our IVFs:
IVF #1 my eggs November/December 2013: Cancelled IVF due to poor response

    IVF #2 my eggs/Manada's uterus January/February 2014
BCPs and lupron overlap Stimmed: 1/22-2/2: Bravelle and Menopur (dosage ranged from B300 and M150 to B375 and M150 to B300 and M225)
2/4 retrieved 10 eggs. Endo was much worse than expected. Only 3 eggs fertilized; February 7 transferred two day 3 embryos, froze one. All great condition.
    BFP eve of 6dp3dt; Beta 1 (11dp3dt): 110; Beta 2 (13dp3dt): 175; Beta 3 (15dp3dt): 348; Beta 4 (19dp3dt): 2222; Beta 5 (21dp3dt): 4255
    1st ultrasound (3/6  6w 1d): TWINS!!!! Twin A measuring 6w1d with a heartbeat of 118bpm. Twin B measuring 6w0d with a heartbeat of 113bpm.

***July 18, 2014 we lost our beautiful babies at 21 weeks gestation. They were born too early. Tavin Sara T. and Casey Elizabeth T. are beautiful and precious and we will love them and miss them forever.***

    FET #1 December 2014
Intralipid infusion on Dec 10. Transfer of 1 day 3 nine-cell embryo into my uterus on Dec. 19. (acupuncture immediately before and after)
    BFP on Dec. 27; Beta 1 Jan 2 (14dp3dt): 665, Beta 2 Jan 4 (16dp3dt): 1859, Beta 3 Jan 6 (18dp3dt): 4449, Beta 4 Jan 10 (22dp3dt): 12,251.

  • We did the same protocol the cycle we got our BFP with the boys.  We went in on cd10 then again on cd12 and were told to trigger that night for IUI 36 hours later.  It will really just depend on follicle number and size. On CD 10 they should be able to estimate your day for IUI or set another monitoring appointment like they did with us.

You have probably already discussed this but with clomid there is a increased risk for multiples if you respond really well (this is how we had the twins) so ask your RE if there is any reason they would cancel a cycle such as over response to the drugs.  This is generally standard practice in cycles where more than 3 follicles could reach maturity at time of IUI as REs will try and avoid high order multiples at all costs.  We were almost forced to cancel our cycle we got our BFP for this reason and I would have been really upset as I was not prepared mentally for what happens in case of over response (we never discussed it as we never thought I would respond well to clomid).  Again feel free to ignore me here or forgive me if I have over stepped with this one it just came as a shock to us. :)

  • Thank you for all responses. It really helps. I think I was pretty unrealistic that things would happen so fast and I wasn't prepared for meds at all but to have a baby I will do anything. My wife and I discussed the chances of multiples and we have an extremly supportive family an aunt that would literally move in if needed that we are okay with those chances. Now I thought a trigger shot was done in office but by what I see its something you do at home? Does it hurt also do you prefer to do it yourself or have your spouse do the shot?

  • The trigger shot is generally done at home.  Its a tiny tiny needle and goes in your stomach so it isn't too traumatizing.

I did my own as I am not squeamish about those types of things as I had to check my blood sugar throughout the day for several months.

I just put ice on the spot and then did the trigger shot.  It was over in a second and I didn't feel it.
