bath toys & mold

ok so I have her bath toys hanging in those mesh bags on the side of the tub- i thought after she plays with them, i rinse them and put them in the mesh to air dry- thinking thats enough. But last time we had a bath i pulled out a cup and grimy mold was in there!!!

what do you do to prevent this? any tricks? routines to clean? or a different way to store bath toys???

thanks!

Re: bath toys & mold

  • Rinse them well each time. You can soak them in bleach with water....scrub, rinse well. I HATE the bath toys that have a hole then water accumulates in them and I am sure all kinds of nastiness is in there. Honestly, I just toss them out and get new stuff. I want to find little animal bath toys that don't have a way of water getting in them.

  • We rinse the toys and let them dry on the ledge of the tub, and then I put them in the little toy holder on the wall once completely dry. We use to have this mesh holder, but it was so gross with mold that I threw it away and got this plastic one instead. Easier to clean in my book. I also got rid of all those toys with holes in them (they usually just play with cups), because those plastic animals with holes are nearly impossible to clean or even get the water out.

  • I had the same problem recently. We were playing in the tub with one of her rubber duckies. I sucked some water into it and then sprayed it and out comes disgusting black slimy mold! UGH. I took a closer look and you could see through the duck and see the black mold all along the inside of it.

All of our bath toys are now solid and can't trap any water.

  • I soak them in bleach quite often to kill anything. I did solve the problem recently by hot gluing the holes shut in the toys that have them. Worked like a charm!
