No Cry - Remind me please

I loaned out my No Cry Sleep Solution after DD#1 and never got it back.  If I'm doing pickup up/put down with an 8-9 month old am I patting her back until she falls asleep or just until she's dozing?

She cries the second I put her down and stops crying the instant I pick her up.  So, I'm trying to figure out how I soothe her when I put her down.  If I pat her back, she will calm and go to sleep, but I can't remember if that's what I'm supposed to be doing.

    It says try not to touch but say shhh shhh if you need to. If you need to touch LO then do it just till they calm down and then stop. GL!
