Food for DH in Hospital Bag

I was chatting with a friend and she mentioned to me to make sure I pack something to eat for DH (granola bars, etc) in our hospital bag. She was in labor 36 hours and her DH did not want to leave her to go to the cafeteria, so he did not eat a thing.  Not sure how relevant this would turn out to be, but I admit I never would've thought of it and it's not a bad idea so I thought I'd share.

  • That is one of the things I've read that is recommended to pack not only for DH but you never know what time you will go into labor and be done so packing a snack is good if there is nothing open like the cafeteria or you forget to pack change for the snack machines.

  • Now that I stop to think of it, it seems a pretty reasonable thing to think to pack. It's probably on a lot if lists you can search for too ( which I have yet to do). Sorry if this was a waste of time post ladies, I realize most are probably more informed (and or have more common sense) than I.LOL

  • You can order food at my hospital 24/7 so I'm not too worried.
  • I already have change packed in my hospital bag for the beverage vending machine and I'm going to pack granola/nut bars for DH. We have 24 hour room service available as a backup but I know DH won't want to order food while I'm in labor.

  • Yeah on our tour they recommended bringing a small cooler with drinks and snacks for H.

  • Not only for labor, but we both wanted something snacky at some point in our stay or at least something not from the cafeteria

This. It's like hotel room service.

  • I know our hospital has an area for husbands & post partum moms with snacks (crackers, pb, etc) and drinks (juice, ginger ale, etc).  I believe there is also access to the cafeteria via room service, but I'm not sure of the hours.

  • At our hosiptal, while I was labor I was not allowed to eat. However, they said DH could order from the room service and he could eat it. I do think though that he did go down to the cafeteria a time or two. I would just call him if I needed him.

ours has the snack area too. The food was pretty crappy though! I delivered at 9 pm after room service stopped serving so my first post delivery meal was a cold mushy turkey sandwich. Sad sad story.

  • You might also want to pack snacks for yourself!  I had c/s's, so my hosp. stay was a little longer.  I kept finding myself waking up in the middle of the night totally ravenous.  I was so glad that I had packed granola bars in my bag, b/c they helped tide me over until breakfast.

  • We packed snacks and quarters for DH. It was the weekend and the food services downstairs were all closed. He was starved once DD arrived.

  • Agreed! Pack him some food :) I was in labor overnight and the cafeteria was not open. I packed the Healthy Choice steamers where all he had to do was add water and mic them. They also did not have to be refrigerated. In fact, most of my labor bag was snacks!

Also, pack some snacks in your mother baby unit bag. Just in case ;0)
