Hi, my baby boy just turned 3 months tho past Friday. I was wondering, at what age should I start introducing solids, mainly cereal? My pedi said I can start now if I want.
Is 3 months too early? Also, rice or oatmeal?
How about fruits and veggies? I really hope I don't have to wait til 6 months to start him on those.
Thanks, FTM here and clueless!

Re: Starting LO on cereal
I'm a FTM, too. Our pedi gave us the go ahead at 4 months. We tried rice cereal then, but he didn't quite have the tongue thrust reflex gone, so we laid off of solids for a couple of weeks. Now he can swallow fine, and he can sit up pretty well, which is really helpful. Feedings are much more enjoyable for all of us.
He now eats oatmeal and barley cereal. We'll try veggies and fruit down the road.
I agree!
You can start offering a few bites and see how your LO responds. If he seems interested, then go ahead with the cereals/ purees. The key is to take it very slow and give the baby space to explore his food. If he is having a difficult time or becomes upset then it's best to stop and try again later. As long as you're following his lead and letting him be ready at his own pace it will make the transition a lot easier.
I do however agree with PP to not rush the solids, because it is more challenging and it's not really necessary yet. Do what you think is best, but there's no hurry.
