Baby Showers

Shower Location

My BFF has offered to throw me a shower. She sent me a message asking for number of people and some dates. We have quite a while to go yet, but I was grateful that she's already offered. My BFF lives about 1.5 hours away from me. I do not know what her ideas are for locations. I have close family and friends in both locations, as well as places in between us. Would it be bad practice for me to ask to have it at a location close to my house? I have a free venue in mind. Or do I go wherever she/they plan and figure out how to transport everything back to my house. On the other hand, they'll have to transport food & decor if we have it my way. Reason I am asking now is because I will see her twin (my other BFF) next week, and I know she will bring up the shower. TIA!

Re: Shower Location

  • First of all, they have lots of time to iron out these details. Second of all, I wouldn't offer any suggestions unless she/they ask.

I would wait and see what their plans are and then discuss.

  • I would wait and see if they ask you for suggestions.  They might have something in mind or may be trying to keep some things a surprise.  If they ask you your preference, I don't think it would be bad to suggest something closer to home or in the middle of your cities.

If they ask for your input, offer it up.  Otherwise, I would wait and see what they come up with, and go along with what they plan.

This. As the date draws nearer, you might ask your friend about where she's thinking of planning the shower. If she's not sure and asks for advice, and you have a free venue in mind, maybe it would be appreciated. However, if she says she plans to throw it somewhere else, I think you should just go along with that and not say anything (except thank you, of course!)

  • I would just wait until/if she asks.  I have one shower that is 40 minutes from my house -- my friends and I will have to load up our cars and transport it all home.  My other shower is 80 minutes from my house.  I already told DH that he is going to have to attend that one due to the distance, I will be 35 weeks, and we will need to bring it all home.

  • My SIL had mine at her house about 45 minutes from my house and it was NBD.  DH dropped me off, met his dad and brother and niece and nephew for lunch, then came back and helped load the car to take me home.  My brother was there as well (his house) and stayed in the basement with my nephew and the dog and came upstairs to help if needed (carry gifts in from cars, take out the trash and at the end load the car with MH).  An hour away is really NBD either way.  Let them worry about it unless they want your input.

  • I appreciate the input! I'm use to being the hostess for such things so I appreciate you all reminding me to take a back seat!
