"When did y'all have the baby?"

I guess it's better than "when are you due" when you aren't pregnant, but really? Really? I swear I do not have a stomach this size when I am not pregnant...

Anyone else get exciting comments from strangers lately?

Re: "When did y'all have the baby?"

  • "Gosh you look really big"

"Oh my goodness, you have gotten so BIG!!"

"Are you sure there aren't twins in there"

Co-worker: "Wow you're small how far along are you?"

    Me: "6 months"

Co-worker "Oh don't worry. You're going to get huge. You're going to waddle in a couple of months."

Me: "Don't say that" *turns around walks away*

    Yeah this just happened. Angry

  • I was told by the checkout person at the grocery store on Sunday that I was about to have my baby any day!  I really hope that's not the case!

  • At my 25 week appointment with the MFM specialist, a nurse asked me if I was pregnant.  Does the basketball I appear to be hiding under my shirt not give it away?  I just said, "Good God, I hope so!"

  • Yup.  Just like being told I will make up for my lack of weight gain in the 3rd trimester!  Thanks- I really needed to hear I am going to become a whale. People need to learn to just say congratulations, and then be quiet.

not from strangers, but from friends and family -

"I know what you're having" re: gender.

really? because the U/S tech wasn't 100% certain so I'm not sure how you know.

and DH & I haven't told anyone what the tech thinks.

it's starting to drive me crazy.

SWEET JEEBUS, THIS.  My hubs is a voice teacher, and at his students' recital last week, TWO MOMS stood there and STARED At me and asked really personal questions trying to determine the gender when I told them we aren't finding out.  It's such a little thing that sends me into a rage.

  • CW: "you look like you're ready to give birth in a week"

Which is really interesting because until about 2 weeks ago, people who didn't know me couldn't tell I was pregnant (its probably still hit & miss depending on what I'm wearing).

  • OB, different from one I normally see: "Well, you need to take your prenatals."

Me: "I would but they make me so nauseous I can't eat. Isn't it a little more important that I actually eat food?"

Her: "Just take them at night."

Me: "I have tried. I still can't eat the next day. That is part of the reason I lost 10 pounds at the beginning."

    Her: "Take your prenatals."

I'm now avoiding her because I had discussed this with the OB I trust and she agrees it is more important to eat actual food.

This happened to me all.the.time with number one. It was one of the ladies who always waited on me at the post office. It started when I was just 7 months along. made a trip there almost every day until I stopped working and she would look at me incredulously and say "I can't believe you're still here!"

  • Same lady always stares at my cart full of groceries.

    "you're going to ready THAT?!"

"you know it's really not that hard to make real mashed potatoes instead of instant"

    Yup..

    Another lady

"you better slow down on the weight gain"
  • Oh And I forgot too add

"whats wrong with your face ?"
    I said"umm I'm pregnant"

  • Most people have been very nice. I've been getting a lot of "you look great!" and "you're carrying well". My mom is the only one who seems to think I look "big" or "huge" or whatever.

    Gee. Thanks mom. :)

  • When I was 5 months pregnant a coworker told me I looked the same size as another pregnant coworker (who was 8 months along).

Same woman recently told me I was getting very wide.

Male coworker (who I am not close with) gave me advice - to make sure I pump a lot so my husband can help with nighttime feedings.

  • Cashier at ChicFilA: "You look like you're about to pop!"

Eye roll. You don't know me! Now I have to lie about my due date, so that I don't feel self conscious. Haha
  • "6 months? You don't look pregnant AT ALL."
    "I wouldn't have guessed!"
    "You look the same!"

These comments don't make me feel awesome, they make me feel like you always thought I had ginormous boobs and weighed 20 lbs more than usual. And that I've always had a large bulge of _whatever_ hanging out there. And that I've always had a double chin, weird back chubs, and all of the other lovely pregnant symtoms I'm rocking right now.

I'm tall and curvy, so I know I'm not showing like someone who is shorter and thin, but JESUS PEOPLE. Way to make me feel weird. Commenting on size of baby or mom at all just icks me out and I hate that it's totally on the table for some people.

  • I've been getting the "Just wait until you get big" talk a lot lately.

I'm 27 weeks and have only gained 5 lbs overall and was not overweight before. The baby is measuring right where he should and I eat 3 healthy meals and snacks a day. I lost some weight in the first trimester because I failed a very early glucose test and was put on a gestational diabetes diet. I get frustrated because I can't tell if people are judging me for not gaining weight or just jealous that they gained more.

  • OMG...I go to the bathroom and my co-worker stops me in the hallway. She says "You really put on some lbs this weekend. Last week I couldn't tell, and now you can really tell you're pregnant. You need to start wearing some of those flowy clothes now."

I don't think my f*ck you face, blank stare, and eye roll was enough. Angry

I'm done with people for the day! I'm checked out!

I just got ANOTHER one. Complete stranger who had borrowed a pair of our headphones. Comes up to return them. Note that I was not the one who had given them to her -- that was someone else, a very tiny petite black girl (I am white as a sheet, tallish and curvy). She hands them to me and says "I didn't know you were pregnant!"

I can't tell if she thought we were the same person or what.

My thoughts, exactly! I think she is hung up on all of the old wives tales and likes to convince herself they are all true. But I'm having a boy, and I thought the "carry wide" nonsense applied to having girls.

  • "Oh - you're pregnant?"

Nope. I'm just wearing an obvious maternity shirt because I'm fat.

This was said to me by an extremely pregnant lady at ON when we were talking about babies, and I had a cart full of newborn girl clothes, besides the toddler boy in my cart...who is clearly not the one who is going to wear newborn girl clothes.

  • I was staying in a hotel for 2 weeks while at a conference and finally on the last day the breakfast attendant (we chatted every morning) asked me "When did you have your baby?" Glad I'm not the only one who has gotten that question. It seemed very strange, but I guess better than asking if I was pg when I wasn't.
