Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Teething this early?

LO just turned 4 months. Well on Friday around 7PM he started SCREAMING out of nowhere, I am talking screaming until he was practically choking himself and he was shoving his hands in his mouth and he has been literrally gnawing on hands for the past few days. I thought I felt a tooth but I have no idea what they feel like so I could be wrong. Well he did the same thing Sunday afternoon and last night too. And this was not an Im hungry or tired cry. This was full-fledged screaming which he NEVER does. This seems to early to be teething?

Re: Teething this early?

  • Definitely not too early!

E has been teething since early Month 3. It's such a sad noise she makes during the day, but it's not really a cry.

However, the last 2 nights she has been crying right before bedtime. Last night she woke up at 2am hysterically crying and i gave her a teething drop and a hug and she went back to sleep a little later.

Love Hyland teething drops (I put in 1 or 2 and it dissolves super fast) and works real quick. A cold, wet washcloth (or frozen) works miracles too cuz they just wanna suck on something soooo badly :)

  • DD has started the earlier, less painful teething signs (ear pulling, face rubbing, hand biting, drooling) and she's about to be 3 mos.  I thought it was an ear infection because of the ear pulling, so I looked it up and read that teething can start months before the actual tooth comes in.  So yeah, it's definitely possible.

This. I just talked to my ped because LO has been super fussy, not sleeping well, not eating as usual, drooling, chewing on everything possible, and just not acting like himself. She said this exact thing - they can show signs months before you actually see a tooth. She said to give him Tylenol at night & see if that helps. If not, it might be a ear infection. We have a well baby appt on Thursday so I guess we'll see.

  • LO started teething about 3.5 mos. At his 4 mos check up pedi said he was Not teething and that it wouldn't happen until 7-9 mos.  Oops guess he forgot to inform LO because he now has 2 teeth on bottom and you can see the 2 on top just under his gums...
