Wondering if anyone has a home birth vbac story to share? I am strongly considering this option, and had the chance to speak with very professional qualified midwives who do this where I live. My 2 main hold backs are my distance from the hospital (15 min) and how to deal with family/friends who do not support my decision. My husband is on board and we have been reassured by the midwife practice that we are close enough to a hospital and our situation is very safe.
I had very negative hospital experiences and really like the comfort of home, so long as it is safe.
Re: Home birth vbac
I had an HBAC two years ago and am planning my second this fall. My birth story is in the birth stories forum, near the top.
We also struggled with family, but it didn't end up being as stressful as I thought. We switched at 26w from a hospital midwife to a homebirth midwife, and we had decided to email each of our parents letting them know how we came to our decision. We didn't do that with siblings or anyone else though (just talked that through on the phone as need arose). We contemplated not telling family, then we realized how much trust and respect our parents had already given us in being parents and a separate family, that even if they didn't agree with our choice, they respected our place to make that choice. MIL is a retired nurse and more medical, so she worried a lot, I'm sure, but it wasn't my job to not make her worry.
I found a lot of support from ICAN, it depends on the area with how active the group is (some have online chat groups).
Iris had an HBAC with an OB, so she'd be a good resource.
I would love to try an HBAC next time, but I don't think I could ever get DH on board and I just love my MW who only delivers at the hospital.
I highly recommend visiting the blog "Birth Without Fear". https://www.birthwithoutfearblog.com
There is a section you can visit can VBAC, and tons of them are home births.
