v-birth after c-section anyone?

I might be thinking about this a little too soon... especially considering I'm only 5 weeks along. I had a c-section with my first child. It's been 2 years. Has anyone ever tried to have a vaginal birth after a c-section? I'm just curious if I should attempt to try or or just be okay with a c-section. I had no complications during ro after the c-section. Recovery was perfectly fine. I didn't really mind having one either.

On another note - found out we were pregrant and when we were telling everyone, found out my brother-in-law and his girlfriend are going to have a baby at the same time! Due within a couple days! :) Very exciting. I was pregant alon e last time. It will be nice to know someone this time around.

  • I had a c-section with my first (she was breech), but am planning to try for a VBAC this time around.  If you haven't already checked it out, there are a lot of great VBAC stories on the vbacbumpies.blogspot.com site.

  • Yep!!

We're attempting a VBA2C.  Just making sure that my doctors and I are on the same page, and schooling DH on as many scenarios as possible so that he can stand behind me when we make decisions.

  • Thanks. I'll definitely check out the site. Getting the docs on the same page and schooling the hubby, definite must! :)

  • I had a c/s with my first; it wasn't planned.  I had a decent recovery, no issues at all.  I have since then had 6 VBACs and IMO they are so much easier.  I would talk to your dr though and see what they say.

    Yes

  • Why did you have your first csection? VBAC's can be very safe and successful. I'm a labor and delivery nurse we do them often at my hospital.
  • I was induced. After they broke my water, they said I had 12 hours to deliver. At the 7 hour make I was dialated to 9 and 90%. At 12 hours I hadn't progressed any. So.... that's why? I felt like I didn't have any control over any of the decisions. I honestly don't think I should have been induced in the first place. I was 3 days overdue. Whoopie!

  • Being induced increases your risk of csection by almost 50 percent! If i were you i would totally vbac. Make sure your in a strong regular labor pattern before you get your epidural. I have seen lots of successful vbacs with similar situations as yours and some that are not successful. So just prepare yourself for both situations :
  • I have had people tell me that they were so happy to do a VBAC, and had others tell me that it was horrible. I think, just like any birth story, it can be completely variable. I had a picture perfect CS with my DD, so I am considering just going that route again, although will see what happens when I get to talk more with my doc.

  • Thank you everyone. I'm going to do a lot more reseach and talk to the docs about it. I had absolutely no problems whatsoever with my c-section... I was actually thinking "wooh-hoo!" that I'd just get to schedule another one and be on the "easy road." I guess I am just not sure now.
