Birthing Pictures

I just wanted to share my birthing photographer with you ladies.

I met Vickie before I gave birth to my first child at Baylor. It was faith that we happened to be sitting together in the lobby and we started to chat.

Come to find out she was a photographer, and I was looking for someone to do birthing pictures. She had never done them before that point, but I took a leap of faith and hired her anyways after looking at her website. She did my maternity pictures, the birthing pictures at the hospital, and pictures after the birth a week later.

i am so glad that I hired her. The pictures from before, during, and after are priceless beautiful memories that I would not have if it weren't for her! I have pictures from just a regular camera too, but it just doesn't tell the story like a well trained eye!

I highly recommend her if any of you are thinking about a photographer in the suite with you. You and everyone else will be too much in the moment to capture those kinds of moments yourself, and the next day it will all be a blur...

Re: Birthing Pictures

  • Thank you, I was about to post for some referrals for a photographer who does newborn shots in the hospital. I don't see a price list on her site, is she reasonable?
  • Loading the player...
  • Check out www.southernmaephotography.com or view their fanpage on Facebook. She does all portraits from maternity/birth to newborn/children and even family/weddings.
  • I think she is quite reasonable. When I spoke with her last year her pricing for birthing pictures were 450 and it included a CD of the pictures. You would have to call or email her to get an update price. You don't pay until after, incase scheduling is conflicted, because you can't plan around birth sometimes.

When we used her the first time, she had a business trip and had just flown back in the previous night, that was lucky. I kept her updated all day, because really, she really doesn't need to be there the entire time. She got there about and hour before pushing started, which was great timing! She got some pictures of the waiting room, and the grandmas waiting, then came back in and took some very candid shots of us in the room, like my husband playing on his iPhone, and my friends visiting me, then during the birth, and the very first shots of my dd being held in the air, and our first reactions, etc...

Granted the stars were alined that day. Also you need to check with your OB I they are ok with someone coming in to take pictures... Not all OB's are created equal. But, if everything works out, those are priceless memories.

Like I said before, if it all works out, having someone that is professional, that does not have a serious emotional tie to moment that you want pictures of makes for great memories down the road that are priceless. We had family there with cameras and granted those pictures are memories too, but they just weren't as good.
