Over the last 3 weeks I have really been trying to figure out if I want to go to my new RE that I am supposed to see on March 13th. He is completely out of network. When I called today to see if there is anyone else near me that would be in network for our insurance they said No... I then asked about my current RE. They said they couldn't find him and that he isn't in network either. This is soo weird to me because they gave me his name a year ago!!!!! Also when I called my current RE for IVF questions she said that they accept NGS which is my insurance. SOo I have to figure that out tomorrow!

Well on to the IVF costs. This is where I am probably going to stay with my current RE.

Current RE- Starting costs just for the IVF is $6,459, then medication is around $3500 and then I have to pay for blood work, semen analysis, and freezing. Soooo she said a total cost is close to $12,000 per cycle. Then an FET after would be around 2200.
New RE- They said starting costs is $10,000-$12,000. This does not include office visits, labs, or medications. Also for my consultation on March 13th it is 200.00

Sooo as you can see the New RE would cost alot more per cycle. This scares me!! I really wanted to get a second opinion, but if it is going to cost alot more I find it worth it to stay where I am! My doctor can sometimes get under my skin and sometimes I feel he doesn't completely listen to me! His nurse is awesome though and takes that time I need! Soo having said this... Would u guys still go get a second opinion or based on the costs stay where I am?? Sorry if this is a common sense question. I just want to make sure I am making the right decision.

I hope you don't mind that I'm posting. You may want to check with your insurance about gap coverage. If there isn't an in-network provider within so many miles of your residence, they'll offer in-network coverage for out-of-network providers. Just call customer service to find out if your insurance has this service. GL

Tough call. I'm in the midst of making the same decision. Current RE will be about $12k a cycle, new RE about $22k a cycle. I made the decision at least to do the consult and see what they have to say (what's $200 in the grand scheme of things, right?) I am guessing that the consult will make the decision easier. If they are very confident that it will work, if they come up with a fascinating protocol that would sway me. If they were jerks and I wasn't confident, then the decision would be easy! I say go for the consult and just see what happens!

PAIF RESPONSE:

If its just a second opinion and you take all of your test results and records, you're looking at a few hundred dollars so far, right? I'd go for that OOP.

If the advice or plan from the new RE differs from your current RE's plan, I think then you have some decisions to make.

Thanks for your response! My current RE hasn't pushed IVF. He actually was okay to do a couple more rounds of IUI with Bravelle because it worked in September. I feel like when we go to the new RE he is gong to say IVF. I will talk to DH. He said last night we should cancel with the new RE because the price of IVF is more money and we will probably only do one IVF. Unless we win the lottery lol! Sooo I will see if he is willing to go get a second opinion and maybe we can take that back to our new RE??

I know for sure my current RE doesn't carry a shared risk program. When asking the new RE's office they didn't mention it but I will call back and ask them today!

I can't answer any of your insurance questions, sorry! But, I would go just for the second opinion. It doesn't mean that you have to go with him/her in the end, but a fresh set of eyes might see something that your current RE missed. Think of it as a live-action google with somebody who actually knows what they're talking about Big Smile

. Go in armed with your questions and see what they have to say. If you're considering switching to them (and thus spending more money in the end anyways) a couple hundred dollars for a consult (if your insurance doesn't cover it) is just a bit of an investment. You can always take their suggestions back to your current RE and see what they have to say.

Thank you sooooo very much! I have been about ready to pull my hair out! I called back to the new RE office and talked to the office lady and she was extremely nice. She took time to talk to me and said that it wouldn't hurt to get a second opinion like you guys said! I was on the verge of canceling but maybe you guys are right and I need a new set of eyes!! I just wish the costs were the same!!!!!!!!!!!

We're also in a similar situation. We did end up going for a second opinion and I've started a new IVF cycle with him, even though it is going to cost us more. Plus, I'm getting a THIRD opinion next week too. I'm just hoping to hear some new suggestions. Good luck to you!
