What are you doing to protect your mattress?

DH is concerned that my waters going to break while I'm sleeping and that I'll destroy our new pillow top mattress. We have a huge waterproof cover, but it makes me sweat. Any other suggestions/options?

Twice now I've had my water break in the middle of the night, so this is definitely a possibility for me.

I have one of those hospital mattress protectors. It's about maybe 3' x 4'. That's what I'm going to use.

We just got a new pillow to mattress too, I put a trash bag & two towels under the sheet on my side because I can't find a better solution

I have some leftover potty training pads from my pups. I put one under the fitted sheet on my side today when I changed the sheets.

I have a sleep number bed, which is rubber, with a removable and dry-cleanable pillowtop, so I'm not concerned.

I would think just a thick mattress pad would protect your mattress. They probably even sell waterproof ones (thinking of elderly people with continence problems).

I'm doing this too. My water also broke in the middle of the night last time (with a massive gush).

I have been concerned about this, and also the car upholstery. I think I'm going to pick up a waterproof mattress protector from Target and put that on the bed.

We have a Tempurpedic mattress with a waterproof protector cover on it, but I also got one of those hospital mattress protector pads at my local pharmacy just to be extra sure.

Cheap, I know. Just looking for the protection without spending too much for both before and after baby's arrival. Should be easy to just toss afterward. Will just use sheets that can be bleached and, should they get ruined, I'd toss.

At my child birth class, the instructor told us to just get the incontinence pads from the drugstore used for the elderly. they cost about $10. she said to put on directly on the mattress, one on top of the mattress pad, and and one to sleep on if comfortable. She also said to have one in the car for the trip to LD and not just the seat! Make sure you put one on the floor too because women in labor tend to not sit straight up, but slouch down.

No problem.

I will add that I have a few of those because I find them really handy. The girls each have one in their bed and I use another one (folded in half) as a changing pad.
