Toddlers: 24 Months+

Clothing Brands for solidly-built toddler girls

Could you please recommend any brands of clothes for girls that are cut  generously in the waist?  My DD (21 months) is a bit above average in height, but she is 95%+ in weight.  Many 2T shirts don't always cover her tummy, but the 3Ts are too big at her arms/shoulders.  If you have a huskier girl, please let me know brands that have been successful for you.

Thanks.

  • My girls are long and skinny, so I can recommend what doesn't work for us, maybe it will work for you :)

Jumping Beans pants from Kohls always seem to be bigger in the waist. The shirts seem to run small, however. Circo from Target seem cut wider and shorter. We've also had some stuff from Old Navy that seems wider, but it depends on the item.

  • So I have a DS, but he's husky. He fits best in Carters and Gymboree 3T for waist and 2T for length (he's 27mo). I have to avoid Target and Gerber.

  • Thanks.  DS is long and skinny; DD is middle-long-ish and solid.  His clothes would probably fit her better, and he'd fit great in her leggings!  Even at this age, the girl clothing is so body con.....
  • My dd is very tall and average build.  I find Carter's clothes are often too wide for her so that may work for you.  Gymboree pants have the elastic adjustable waist so those may be good too.  Children's place also always seems to run big.

Both gap/old navy seem better for slim kids.

  • Also, we have the same problem with shirts bc of her height.  We do a lot of tunic/shirt dresses with leggings.  DD stays comfy and covered and it looks cute too.  One brand at TJ maxx we buy a lot is savannah.  They make a lot of tunic type shirts for girls.

  • My DD is 3, so a little older, but she's always been big(80% in height and weight).  Most of her clothes come from Carters and Gymboree.  Old Navy didn't work very well for her, but Gap seemed to fit her fine.  Also, some random brands that I picked up at a local boutique: Kicky Pants and Sage Creek Organics seem to be roomy in the waist.

I've had the opposite experience. I find Jumping Beans, Circo, and Old Navy run slim.

Gymboree runs wider than most brands. Carters fits pretty true to the weight-length range listed.

  • I'd stick to Carters and Old Navy, I find that those brands run the biggest. Gerber is terrible and Children's Place runs small

  • Thanks for all the ideas, ladies!  Much appreciated.

My DD has always been at the top of the charts or even off them for both weight and height.  Carter's, Gymboree, and Janie and Jack fit her the best.   I have also found that girl's size 3 or 4 shirts fit her way better than the toddler ones.  Toddler tops are always too wide and/or too short.  Little girl sizes are perfect.
