Today's the day...

......that we start to transition DD to her big girl bed.  Yikes!

All week, I had planned that tonight was our deadline to get started with the transition.  We'd rest up this week and get lots of good sleep, and DH had planned to move out the crib today.  The room is all secure and safe, and we've had her twin bed set up on the floor with bed rails for the last couple weeks.

Of course, she choose this morning to finally take the big leap and actually throw herself out of her crib for the first time, right??  LOL!  I had woken up because I had to pee.  I had yet to hear a peep from her room, so I was laying in bed debating whether to get up and go, or to try to hold it so I didn't wake her.....when I heard a thump followed by screaming.  Yep, she was on the floor!  Fine, luckily, probably more scared than anything.

So, wish us luck tonight!  I think we're going to have one last nap in the crib, and then we'll start our new bedtime routine tonight!

  • Ugh.  LOL.

So about an hour after I posted this, DH comes up from his office and says he's going to dismantle the crib.

I started to protest that I'd rather wait until tonight, but he did not agree.  Not that he's the one putting her to bed...but what do I know, right?  Haha.  Anyway, we let her "help" take apart the crib, all the while talking her through why we are transferring her little pillow and her bunny and her blanket to the twin bed.  She was actually excited and wanted to get right into the bed for a nap, but we hadn't yet had lunch.

We had a quick lunch and then went back up.  I got her all settled using our normal routine, and left the room.  She probably stayed in the bed for about three or four minutes before she freaked out and ran to the door, sobbing REALLY hard.  I went right in and picked her up and put her right back in the bed.  DH came up and she said "night night" to him.  I got her settled.

But, then I went out of the room and she freaked out again, running over and opening the door, hanging on the gate and crying. This time, she grabbed for my hand and led me to the bed.  She truly seemed like she wanted to be in the bed and to go to sleep, she just didn't want me to leave.

I ended up laying with her for about 20 minutes until she fell asleep.  I REALLY don't want to make a habit of this, but I'm hoping that if she can successfully take a nap and wake up rested, she'll feel more confident about the change.  In all fairness, while she does go right down for naps (while wide awake), I do lay down with her (in my bed) before she goes to sleep every night.  I'm hopeful that with some time and patience,  I will be able to leave her (awake) in the bed without having to lay down with her for a half hour at a time!

FX that she takes a decent nap today and that tonight goes well!

It's... still going...lol. She doesn't seem to mind the bed at all, but gets super upset whenever I try to leave the room. I'm afraid I may fall asleep in here before she does!

    Thanks!

The night actually went pretty well once she got to sleep, she stayed in the bed for nearly eight hours straight.  The 6:15 am wake-up has made for a semi-rough morning for both of us (she normally sleeps till 8), as our schedule is off, but I'm staying positive and confident!
