Eczema and chlorine pool?

Those that have LO's with eczema, have you had them in a pool?  DH and I are thinking of putting in a pool this year and I have no idea how their skin will react to the chlorine and pool chemicals. DD hasn't had an outbreak in almost a year but DS is more sensitive...any experience?

Re: Eczema and chlorine pool?

  • No experience with it, but a couple of years ago there was talk on one of the boards about diluted bleach baths for kids with eczema being a good thing. A pool might actually be a good thing.

  • DS has very sensitive skin and a lot of eczema issues. He did not have any problems with the chlorine when we did 10 weeks of baby swim. I believe some react to it but with others it can help. After swimming we just rinsed DS off really well in water with no soap.

  • We've had no issues with Lo the pool. She gets a tub as soon as we get home. The sunscreen we took to FL bothered her though and Im 100 sure it was the sunscreen.

  • I have no experience personally, but I asked a close friend whose son has had eczema issues.  She said he would break out in hives when he was younger, but she isn't sure it was all eczema related.  She said it now dries out his eczema.
