Anyones child have a barium enema?

Hope its ok to post here. My 4 year old DD has had extreme constipation forever. We're on our 4th GI dr. I've been trying to give enemas for a "clean out" and have been failing. Even with my husband pinning her down, she flails and screams so much that we barely get anything in her. Now, the GI wants her to have a barium enema (we just had an abdominal xray that shows a lot of backup). I had one years ago as an adult and remember it being awful. Has anyone's LO had one? What was it like? Thanks!

  • I'll be honest. I don't know, yet.  But I will after Tuesday.  DD is 14 weeks old and seems to go a long time between bowel movements, but never seems constipated.  Our GI wanted to rule out problems.  I'll let you know how it goes.

  • yes, my little girl had one done and it was horrible. I even cried. They made her bleed and they couldn't get it in so thats why she bled, but once its over it will be good. My daughter had bad constipation and our GI recommended to give her MIRAlax once a day for about 6 weeks and it has saved us. it makes is easier to go, not makes her go. ask about that
