Giving LO water

This may be a really stupid question and I can't believe I haven't really thought about it until now, but when did you start giving your LO water? My DS is almost 5 months old and has never had anything but BM and I'm starting to think about solids and water. What kind of cup should I give him? I read something a while back about hard vs. soft spouts and straw cups but now I can't find it. Anyone have any advice? Also, we mostly nurse so he doesn't have much experience with bottles.

I have been giving DD solids once a day. I give her a straw sippy of water with the solids because she seemed interested. I won't let her drink too much. It is about practicing the sippy cup and learning how to use it.

I asked my pedi this at my 4mon appointment and he said regular tap water was fine out of a bottle, but no more than 4ounces a day. He also said no to sippy cups until 6months. I EBF and was not planning on giving my LO any water but my mother who watches him a lot may.
