Baby Names

Should've stayed off facebook :(

As seen this AM:

Axel (b)

Lochlan (g)

and, yes, Axel is 100% named after the car part.

  • Lachlan is a beautiful Irish name for boys, but I really don't understand why people feel the need to changing to spelling or give it to a girl.

Ya, I agree.  I'm pretty sure they don't have strong Irish ties that influenced their naming.  I guess I just side-eye people that give strong cultural names to their children when they're not of that ethnicity.  to each their own :)

  • It always disappoints me when people give girls boys' names and change the spelling to be more feminine. Axel just makes me cringe.

  • Axel is actually a legit name in German/Dutch speaking countries, and I think in Scandinavia as well. But if they named him after car parts, that's just sad.

  • Meh.  I actually like both names.

Axel is my great-grandfather's name.  He was Danish and lived in Denmark.

Lachlan is an Irish boy's name.  I don't like it on a girl, but I don't side eye the name in general.

  • Axel was my Swedish grandfather's name.  It's a legit name.

  • Axel is legit, that's why I asked the question. I tend to have to remind myself it's legit just because I have no exposure to that culture before this board but I wouldn't side eye it. I would side eye if they were going for Axel but spelled it Axle to be unique or something. Don't like Lachlan on a girl either.

  • I love the name Lochlan/Lachlan.  Depending on how you spell it, I think it's Irish or Scottish (where my family is from).  PP said it's a boy's name.  I always though it was a girl's name but I've never known anyone with it so I could totally have been wrong.  I think it's a really cool name if you have that heritage.

Axel is like a Swedish name? Hmmm. . . I had an Axel in class and his sister was Ingrid. I always thought that was an odd pairing but maybe if they are both Swedish. However, they are Mexican, so I don't really know!

  • I have a friend who named her son Axel. It is actually a legit name in Sweden, which is where she is from.
