So the doctor told me I failed my 1 hour test. I was 174 and it needed to be under 140. I am taking the 3 hour test on Friday. I was wondering if what I eat for breakfast hurt me that afternoon. I had breakfast at 8:30 am which was 1 bean and cheese taco, 1 chrizo, egg, and cheese taco, and a biscuit with jam along with vitamin a milk. Then I didn't have anything else to eat the rest of the day. I drank the juice at 2:59, had the blood drawn. Which I'm not sure what time the blood was tested, does that make a difference? Plus I had mostly cut out sugar the week before, could that have also hurt me? Thanks Just wondering
Re: Gulose Test
Considering there was almost an 8 hour gap between your breakfast and the test, I don't think your breakfast had much to do with failing the test. In theory your body should be able to process the sugar from the beverage on a normal diet.
Like PP said common sense is not to sugarload a few hours before the test. I know I had breakfast a few hours before of mostly protein to help stabilize the sugars from the glucola. I would be sure to still have a bit of sugar and carbs the week before your three hour test if that is what your diet usually consists of. This way your body is still in it's best insulin producing state.
This. I don't understand why everyone is so desperate to do whatever to pass. GD can be very dangerous if untreated. The test should reflect your daily eating habits, or you won't get an accurate result. Does the GD diet suck? Yes. But I would think having a healthy baby is more important than a diet for a couple of months.
Mine was also nonfasting.
My 1 hour wasn't fasting.
OP, I also failed the 1 hour (with a 159, needed a 140) and I had a a breakfast full of carbs that morning, which your body does metabolize all day. My 3 hour test was fasting, and passed all four blood draws. Good luck!

as a previous poster said, every office/OB gives different directions. I was told to have a light breakfast before I went if I did it in the morning, but I could do it in the afternoon if I wanted. Nothing was mentioned about fasting.

Most 1 hr tests are not fasting required tests, just the 3 hour.
