Baby's Reaction To First Solid Food

My lo just turned 6 months so tonight I decided to try some stage 1 green beans. Up to this point he has only had formula and rice cereal. He ate a few spoon fulls of the green beans but kept making a weird face like he did not like them. Eventually he would not open his mouth to eat anymore. At one point he actually gagged alittle and threw up a small amount. Does this mean that he does not like green beans or he just needs to get used to them. If he does not like them then I will not feed them to him anymore but I just wasnt sure if he would have that reaction to everything since it is something new. However I don't remember him acting that way when I first gave him rice cereal. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!!

  • You'll probably need to try flavors a few times before he will like them. I would try green beans again tomorrow. Just pour a few spoonfuls into a bowl and keep the jar in the fridge so you don't waste much. Your LO is just unsure about the new flavors. He's only had milk and bland rice cereal so the textures and flavors are all new to him!

  • It's normal! Just try something new like sweet potatoes for a few days then try the green beans again. My LO was like that with avocados but I kept reintroducing them and he now loves it!

My LO had a similar reaction, but when I mixed the foods with half cereal (then gradually reduced the ratio of cereal), she seemed to like it much better.
