Diapers

I know we are a long way from needing diapers yet but I was just curious if any of you have used cloth diapers. If yes how did they work for you and which brand and style did you use.

Re: Diapers

  • Loved cloth with DD, wish we had used them sooner! We used mostly bum genius, but I have bought a lot of other diapers for the next babies.

After almost 3 years of IF and a crazy roadside delivery, we are loving life with our second beautiful daughter! Lilypie First Birthday tickers

  • Yup.  LOVE my cloth diapers.  The cloth diaper place is an awesome resource.  I learned a lot there and even more with just a little trial and error.  We have saved a TON of money.  Never had a single diaper rash and he will be one on March 13.

  • Oh and to answer your last question, we used GMD prefolds with Thirsties covers through the newborn stage.  When he was about 2 or 3 months, we switched to pockets.  Mostly BumGenius.   We had 24 prefolds and 3 covers to start.  We now have 14 pockets we rotate and have always done laundry every 2 days.

  • Yep! We've used cloth diapers from the hospital and love them. When he was a newborn we used a combination of newborn sized pockets and prefolds with covers. Once he grew into one size we used one size pockets, all in ones and fitteds with wool for nighttime. We love our BG 4.0s, BG Elementals, and Swaddlebees Econappis. For fitteds we use Sbish, Twinkie Tush, and BubuBebes. Our favorite wool covers are Wild Coconut Wear (WCW for short, formerly Wild Child Woolies). I've also made him some longies out of interlock wool that I felted and dyed myself.

  • Have you had any problems with leeks? Lots of the stuff I have read says you need to double insert while they are asleep. Do you guys recommend the all in ones or pockets?
  • Every baby is different so what works for us may not work for you.  DS is a heavy wetter so we use a mf insert with a hemp doubler underneath in our pockets.

For nighttime, we needed to switch to fitteds with wool when he was about 5 months old. Pockets didn't cut it anymore. There are lots of ladies who CD on my BMB who still use pockets for nighttime with several hemp/bamboo inserts inside. It works for some kiddos, but not all.

  • we have had issues with leaks, but we started using organic inserts and doubling them up for night time and that has fixed that problem for the most part!

Oh and we generally use bumgenius diapers and have half a dozen flip covers and inserts

  • I love cloth diapering. I used prefolds with DD until she could fit into my Bumgenius stash. I wish I hadn't bought so many Bumgenius before she was born because I ended up preferring prefolds. Don't buy too much of anything until you know what fits and what you like.

  • I also love my CD's. I bought a tonne of different used diapers until I found ones I loved and worked well for us. I love softbums because they have adjustable legs and my little man has skinny legs. I also prefer natural fibre inserts: bamboo, hemp or cotton. They seem to absorb better. I double stuff at night and have never had a leak.

  • We cloth diapered our son. I think they worked better than disposables.
Most of our diapers were Fuzzibunz and Bum Genius.

  • Love cloth! We will be using Best Bottoms & Applecheeks. Nicki's Diapers has a fantastic website if you are looking all several options. Check locally too and see if they're available. Most places that sell them are pretty knowlegeable on all the different types. Good luck!

  • We cloth diaper DS and plan to do so for LO too. We use BumGenius and Kawaiis which are my personal favorite I still use disposables every now and then when we travel or if DS gets a rash he's got a super sensitive bum but I think CD work just as well as disposables!
  • Yay!  We love our cloth diapers!  Check out the CD board, they are awesome!  We used mainly Bum Genius, Best Bottoms, Baby Kicks, and Blueberry.  We did have some pee leaks, but the other baby I nanny had disposable diapers, and she had a lot of blowouts.  Personally... I liked cleaning pee off of things a lot better than poop!  Plus... how cute are the cloth diapers??  :)

  • I have a variety of covers with inserts. My favorite covers have been thirsties and blueberries. I also like the flip brand.
If you are crafty my girlfriend made her own covers and they are super cute.

  • We are huge fans of cloth diapering...even DH says he can't imagine using disposables now.  We use GMD prefolds the majority of the time, but also have some GMD Workhorse fitteds.  And we use bamboo fitted diapers for overnight under wool covers.
