Parenting after a Loss

Teething Vent

I honestly don't know what else I can do for DS. nbsp;He's been teething since he was 2 months old and his teeth still haven't cut through. nbsp;I could see them just below his gums around 3 months. nbsp;At his 4 month check up the pediatrician checked and said "Yup those are definitely teeth. nbsp;I give it a max 4wks and they will be threw." nbsp;It has now been 8wks and we aren't any closer but poor B is miserable. nbsp;DH and I took turns rocking him last night while he screamed in pain. nbsp;Tylenol barely took the edge off and if my finger or teething rings even touched his gums he screamed more. nbsp;Last night was one of the worst nights we've had so I thought maybe they were finally cutting through but still nothing.He's drooling in globs, biting on his hands constantly, sleepy but fighting naps, and gets really angry at feedings. nbsp;I don't know what else to do for him that I haven't already. nbsp;I hate to give him medicine unless it's really necessary but Tylenol is the only thing that remotely takes the edge off. nbsp;Advice?nbsp;

Re: Teething Vent

  • Aw, I'm sorry the little guy is in so much discomfort.  I don't have much experience with the long wait for teeth to break through.. DS has been waiting for his top teeth, but it's only on occasion that they seem to bug him.. motrin, in our experience, works a lot better for pain, but I know they don't recommend using that until after 6 months old.

    Have you tried an amber teething necklace?  Many people swear by them -- we've not tried one yet.  Or, another suggestion I read a lot is freezing a wet washcloth and letting them chew on it?  As far as helping him sleep.. I really don't know what else to suggest :(

    I hope they break through soon!!

  • I think you're just a few days shy of 6 mos, so if all else fails I'd break out the Motrin.  We also had intermittent success with Hylands teething tablets. On a couple particularly bad nights I used teensy weensy amounts of (gasp) orajel. I was out of ideas.

    Im sure you've tried the frozen washcloth, super cold fruit in the mesh feeder, etc but those can help too.

    ((Hugs)) and hope your LO (and you) get some relief soon.

    Ditto. Tylenol was a joke. Motrin actually worked, as it takes care. If the inflammation too. On DD, I've also used a teething gel. She. Didn't get teeth until she was 1, so I don't know it you can use it on a 6m old, but it numbs the gums.
