Ladies, please, please, please do not put your child in the forward facing position until at least the age of one and if at all possible keep your child rear facing until at least 2. If you are in a car accident and your underage child is forward facing your child could very well die, a death that could have been prevented if the child was rear facing.

Re: I HAVE to make a separate post about car seat safety
Thank you. I always have people asking me when I'm going to turn DS, and they act so confused when I'm like, not anytime soon.
Thank you!
Also, I'd like to add that every car seat has minimums set by the manufacturer. Your child MUST meet these minimums (weight AND height AND age) to ride in the seat. If they don't, you are essentially making your child the crash test dummy, as they were not tested with dummies below the minimums.

Thank you for posting this!
Also, watch one of the youtube RF vs FF crash test comparison videos, like this one, so you can see why it makes such a big difference:

My boys RFed till right before they turned 3; it's definitely possible to last till at least age 2 if not longer (even if you're on a tight budget and can't spend a lot on seats). 12 months is the very bare minimum.
Mine struggled with it, esp. when DS' legs started getting cramped, but I managed to convince him until our last big vacation up/down I-95 b/t NC and Philly. That was May of last year, and we turned him not long after getting home, so he would have been about 2 years and 9 months.
I would definitely have him read the article above and watch the video below. My DH wasn't too sure about ERF until he watched the video's. He's on board now though and our 3.5yo is still RF, and perfectly happy with it too.

I saw reference to the FF carseat post on SAHM. I'm glad to see this post. Also, not being able to afford it is a load of bunk. Walmart sells Cosco Scenera carseats for $39. They're slim and fit in smaller cars or trucks, they're inexpensive and a million times safer than FF. There is absolutely no valid reason to FF a child that young. It's irresponsible, lazy and selfish.
I'll even make it easy. Here is a link to the Cosco carseat.

If you can't afford $39 it's time to check out all available resources to get a safe carseat.
Before justifying a lazy, selfish and irresponsible decision youtube FF vs. RF crash tests and see why everyone is so passionate about this.
