my bjorn hurt my back...any suggestions

I wore LO in the bjorn for a few hours about a month ago. The next day my lower back was in extreme pain and hasn't been right since.

Can anyone recommend a carrier that puts weight on your hips that will allow LO to face out on the front?

I wish the Ergo was front facing :(

  • Hm. I wear the Bjorn Miracle daily for multiple hours. The only time it hurt was when I didn't properly readjust it after dh wore it.... I find it does put the weight nicely on the hips and not shoulders...

    I love my Bjorn.

  • Check out the Beco Gemini. Though I don't think forward facing is going to be too comfortable no matter what you use, it's just not a very ergonomic position since it pulls your center of gravity too far forward. I'm a big fan of back carries for facing forward once they get a little bigger.

  • The Ergo does have a side wearing position, FYI. Mine keeps me pretty comfy with LO facing me in the regular front position. I plan on wearing her on my hip a lot when her head and neck control are stronger.

  • Wearing baby forward facing in a carrier puts a lot of strain on their hips, and spine.  The reason your lower back hurts is because of how baby was sitting.

Another vote for the Beco Gemini. I have it and love it, and it has lots of different options for positioning.
  • Thanks for the suggestions and the article. I've only carried LO a few times facing out (mainly because of my back), but it makes some good points about it. She loves to look around, but I definitely didn't realize the possible harmful side effects. Going to look in to the Gemini for sure.
