Running while pg = pelvic floor problems pp?

Has anyone done research or talked to an OB about whether running or other high impact exercise while pregnant stretches or otherwise damages the pelvic floor?  I've heard this and read a few anecdotal reports online, and there's certainly some logic to it.  I've definitely had issues with mine since running through 31 wks with my first.  I'm still running at 28 weeks with my 2nd and enjoying it, but I definitely feel some pressure for the rest of the day after I run and I do wonder if I'm doing more damage.  I'd hate to stop running since it's the only exercise I have time for, but I don't want any more incontinence than I already have!!

  • Not sure by I ran almost every day until the day I delivered in both pregnancies and didn't have any problems.

  • I ran up to delivery (36w6d) with DS.  I don't know that I had pelvic floor pain, but I had really bad pain in my ligaments around my pubic bone in the last few months.  It stayed until a couple of months post-partum.  But I was never had any issues after that until now at 26 weeks pregnant with #2 (over 2 years later).  I would just suggest stopping if it gets painful and doing pelvic floor exercises if you are worried about incontinence.

  • I have run throughout all of my pregnancies (including the night my water broke with DD) and have never had an issues post-postpartum.  My OBs only real caution came postpartum when I was encouraged to ease back into my routine.

  • I'm still running (only 17 weeks) but plan to start walking a little of it after 20 weeks.  I also have pelvic pain/pressure/back pain.  It's not awful but it makes me worry.  This is also my 2nd pregnancy and I didn't run with my first.  I am in a little discomfort today but I also did some intervals at a higher incline.  My OBGYN told me to start using a support belt when I complained of pelvic pressure.  I haven't heard anything about pelvic floor problems :(
