Eco-Friendly Family

baby towel washing?

Hi FTM here. Our baby is due at the end of the month. Anyway, my husband and I try to be pretty eco-friendly, and we tend to get a lot of use out of our bath towels before switching them out to wash them. I was wondering if the baby should have a clean new towel every time he gets a bath.  As long as there is no poop or pee on it, is it necessary to wash them after every use if we hang them up to dry? I know babies have more sensitive skin so I don't want to reuse the towels if its going to irritate their skin...but I don't want to be wasteful if its not necessary.

Anyway, just curious what yall do.

TIA for any helpful input.

Re: baby towel washing?

  • How exciting, I hope everything goes well with the arrival of your LO!

Well, for the first couple weeks they don't even actually get baths, just a sponge bath so you definitely don't need to worry about washing the towel every use. Even after you have started to give LO actual bath you can still use the same towel for 2 or three uses. Just make sure you are using a gentle soap like Earth Mama Angel Baby or Dr. Bronner's Baby Mild castille soap (the bar is what I use) and don't worry about washing all the time. Also, since babies shouldn't get a bath every day you can have a towel last you a whole week, that is pretty much our case.

  • We use Norwex towels, and I got one for the baby too. They last a week no problem!
