3rd Trimester

Delivery Room

Just curious who (if anyone) will be present in the delivery room for the rest of you? I kind of just want it to be me and my husband......

Re: Delivery Room

  • Same here...only my husband and doctors/nurses. We will call family when we go into labor, but they can wait in the waiting room if they come early.

  • Same with us. Just DH and myself along with nurses and docs.
  • I am planning to only have DH in the delivery room. It's possible that I could end up changing my mind and wanting my mom in there too but for now the plan is to only have DH.

  • Just me and the hub's

My mom lives 6 hours away, and there is absolutely no way my MIL will be in there. I'm hoping to wait until after to call because I don't really want a waiting room full of family, I'm worried it would be extra pressure having everyone out there, if that makes sense?

The nursing staff will support/enforce whatever you want

  • With DS it was DH and my mom. This time it will only be DH and I since we live in another country from family.

I was very glad that my mom was with me the first time. I learned that while I was in labor, DH sucks as a coach/support. He was sitting in a chair the whole time until a nurse made him get up and hold one of my legs, so it was nice having my mom there to help me get through it. Counting for pushing, wiping my forehead with a wet rag. All the things DH should've been doing.

  • Myself and DH. We're too far from family to have anyone else here, but if my mom were local, she'd be invited too, mostly because she's amazing and kept both DH and myself calm through my first experience and DH admits he's kind of nervous about doing it without her this time.

ETA: Last time, my youngest sister, who is basically in love with being an aunt, was invited to attend. We even planned to lie and say she was over 18, even though she was a few months shy (swine flu scare, under 18 not allowed). Unfortunately, that was my emergency cesarean, so she missed out, but she was able to be one of the first ones to hold DD.

I love sharing the experience with people, but I'm very very close to my family and lucky to have a DH who thinks my family is pretty awesome too.

  • Just me and DH. It was just the two of us when we made her, I'd like it to be just the two of us during labor.

Not counting all the medical staff of course, lol.

  • My husband is the only one.

  • Only DH and the docs and nurses. My mom actually asked me last night if she and my grandma could be in the room! my response "unless you got our LO in there or are going to help get it out. probably not"

  • DH and medical staff.
  • Just DH. My mom is flying in to stay with us for few weeks, so she'll be in the hospital waiting room, but not in the delivery room with us.
  • I seriously don't know, it depends when she decided to come. If she comes during the day my sister can't be there because she won't have anyone to watch her baby until her husband gets off work. My MIL works, I don't want my Mom there and hubby works non stop. So I'll pretty much be in labor alone for awhile and hubby will join me when he can, same with my sister. But in my perfect world my sister and hubby would be there the whole time

  • Just my husband and the Dr/Nurses.  If things take a while I may bring in family for a short time.

  • Just my DH and the medical staff. My mom is deceased but even if she were living, I'm not sure I would want her there. And we were incredibly close. I feel the same as a few of the other PPs. No one helped DH and I get LO in there...so we only want minimal help getting him out. I don't feel that other family members need to be a part of something like delivery.

I suppose it helps that I'm an only child and DH's family lives really far away (not that I would be cool with MIL being in the room if she were closer). The decision to have just my DH in the room was really easy.

  • Just my husband. I feel it's such a
Private special moment. I also feel if people weren't there when baby was
Conceived shouldn't be there for birth. They came when I was in room.

  • It's just going to be hubby and I in the delivery room. My MIL seems to think that she will be there and has given us very strict instructions to call her when I'm in labor (which we will not be doing... if we call it will be when we are on our way home). I have told DH if she shows up there will be a lot of screaming and I won't give two shiits if I hurt her feelings (she cries when she doesn't get her way). I've also written into our birth plan that there are to be no guests, no exceptions (We are giving birth at a sick children's hospital so they limit all guests anyways). This is one thing where I have told DH I am not budging.
  • Thus will be my MIL's only grandbaby, so I would let her stay if she really wanted to, mostly because DH would feel the same and it wouldn't take away from our moment together because she wouldn't be all up in my business. My 13 yo daughter is desperately trying to get in if Grandma gets to, but we will probably kick her out at pushing, depends on how well I'm doing with the labor as things get a little crazy at that stage with no drugs.

  • DH and I and the medical staff.. That's all. We've been through a lot with the loss last year and I/we would like it to be a special moment with just us and the new baby. Family will have a lifetime to see her, but we only get to see her for the first time once.
