breaking up is hard to do - therapist advice?

Ladies - I'm planning on breaking up with my IF therapist next week as I've found another IF therapist that I feel can help me to do the work I need to do to better heal, become less socially isolated and less angry.

Should I give my old IF therapist a head's up in an email? I feel like it will sort of come out of the blue for her.

Also, although I have small beefs with her deal, I don't want to be down on her or have my last session be any kind of complaining about her one.

I'm handling it in person and I'm OK with that. I think it's my responsibility to end our relationship well and postitively.

Does anyone have any advice or thoughts?

in these kind of situations, i always try to lead and end with positives. put the negative in the middle.

for instance,

i feel like i have been helped a great deal during my time with you. i have gathered x, y, and z coping skills during my therapy. however, i feel like my needs have now changed (or i'm entering a different season of my fertility struggle) and i have found a therapist that better meets those needs. thank you so much for giving me the emotional skills to be self-aware enough to make these realizations and transition. I so appreciate all you've done.

Ok, I'll admit the other advice by pp is better than mine, but I'm a wimp in breaking up and doubt I'd be so well spoken. I'd personally keep it short and sweet and say thank you for everything you've done, but I am not going to need your services for a while... I will be sure to call you if I feel I need you in the future. Thanks again!

No advice either but good luck. I'm kind of a scaredy cat when it comes to confrontation I'd probably just never come back and avoid the office's calls LOL

Me too, but I was too ashamed to admit it in my original post. lol

I "broke up" with my therapist, not because I found a new one, but just because I felt done with therapy. I cancelled my next appointment, told her I would reschedule later and then never called back. She never called me either. I didn't feel I owed her any explanation. She knew I had her phone number and could make an appointment if I needed or wanted one. We have enough to worry about in this process. Don't give yourself stress over this, too. If you feel better about giving her an explanation, then do, but if you don't want to, you certainly aren't obligated.
