Can I get some free Vet advice? Pretty please?

We just got a (about) 6 month old Australian Shepherd puppy. She's such a great dog and a good fit with our family! I called to make her an appointment with our local vet and they charge like $30more for an appointment without vaccinations. She just got her 2nd shot so if I wait a few weeks the appointment will be cheaper with a shot...weird.

Anyway, my question is how much should we be feeding her? She gets 1/3 cup in the morning, 1/3 cup in the evening and about 1/3 throughout the day when I work with her on basic commands and training. Is that enough? Too much? I'm worried it isn't enough and DH is worried it's too much. I really don't want to pay $30 more to find out and then have to take her back in a few weeks for her vaccination.

ETA: The food is science diet if that makes a difference

How much does she weigh right now and is there food leftover at the end of meals? Its puppy food right?

I don't know how much she weighs...I have a scale packed in a moving box around here somewhere LOL She's on the small side for an Aussie though. I would guess 30lbs or so...I could be wrong though.

It is puppy food and there's never anything left after meals but she LOVES training time and getting "treats" (which are just her food lol) I offered her more one morning and she didn't go for it which makes me think she's getting enough but I just want to be sure haha She doesn't get table scraps or anything either.

So he needs about 2 cups of food a day right now.  You can split that up into three meals, but the working breeds need more food to stay active.

Thank you! I will split it into three meals. I appreciate it! :D

Sorry i kept saying he vs she! They are great dogs when trained...be aware she will prob try to herd you and your kids and may nip to get you in line...but with training she should be good!

    It's okay ;)

She is a fabulous dog and incredibly intelligent. She lived with my grandma for a couple of  months and picked up some really bad habits. She jumps and she has a puppy bite thing going on. She also begs for table scraps and it's really annoying lol.

We just tell her sit and turn our backs when she jumps. She's been with us a couple of weeks and pretty much only jumps at the door now.  Anytime she bites we just say "ouch no bite!" and she lies down on the ground lol. She doesn't nip at N though. N can stick her hand in the pups mouth (we obviously discourage this) and the puppy will just turn her head and lick her. They're good buddies. We make her sit in the living room now when we eat in the dining room. I feel like she would be making more progress with the begging for food if N would stop sneak sharing her food lol

She sheds so much but we knew that when we got her. I brush her every day and vacuum every day too now.

She knows "sit" perfectly and "lie down" is nearly there. She is also pretty good at "leave it" and we're working on "stay" and "come." DH walks her every day and we play in the back yard for a decent amount of time. We can absolutely tell when she hasn't gotten enough exercise because she'll start to chew on the rug  or pick up N's toys or something. She practically leaps when she runs! We can't wait till it warms up and she's a little better trained to play frisbee in the park with her.
