I, too, have a newborn. It isn't easy finding ways for DD1 to get her energy out!! We have a screened in porch, so this morning we went out there and played with bubbles. We were only out for about 10-15 minutes. Last week I let her run around the garage and color with chalk.
I do that when DD2 is napping. I go back and forth checking on both girls.
We have family dance parties in the kitchen daily. DD likes to play "go fast," which is a combination of hide and seek and tag. I've not been able to play this with her much, but DH does it every lunch hour and in the evening. We have a small basketball hoop inside that she will play with every once in a while. When she's really crazy, I'll give her directions to run from one thing to another to another. She thinks it's fun.
DD runs around the house like a crazy person.
We went for a walk on one of the "nice" days last week, which was nice. I'm taking her to an indoor play area for a play date this week.
DH and I try to take her with us on errands just to get her out of the house. We returned some clothes to old navy yesterday, no big deal, but it did seem to help her restlessness.
and i thought i loved you then <a href="http://daisypath.com/">

I'll love you forever Baby Speck
she's at school all day but when we're home and she needs to do something, she dances or rides her bike (a big wheel type of trike) (thank goodness i have a large hallway).
DD goes to daycare during the week, but on weekends when we can't get outside to the park (we're in Washington so of course its rainy), we have a jump zone and an indoor play area that we go to. When all else fails, the play area in the mall.
If we're confined to the house, we have dance parties.
We converted our finished basement into a playroom and have a 5ft climber/slide, tunnels, a mini trampoline, etc. It works great.
We also go to the Y 4 times a week or so. They have a huge indoor play area. Could you join a place like that? You could leave LO in the child area and instead of working out sit in the lobby with LO.
What about walking the mall? That's another low-risk for illness if you're wearing LO in a carrier.
Malls, child-oriented museums, indoor gyms/trampolines, and we still go outside. We bundle up (you could always wear the newborn and bundle up you and him/her well) and go outside. I probably wouldn't do it below 20... well, that's not true, 'cause I'd just put a snowsuit on her and we'd go play...

DD has a little ball pit that she loves and also likes when I take the couch cushions and put them on the floor and she hops on each one.
We also put on music and dance around with wands and dress up clothes

- indoor play parks, mall play spaces, indoor gyms, the YMCA is great
-also we have a bunch of stuff in the basement - like a slide, small trampoline, a giant yoga ball, etc
- we play lots of hide and seek games. (We don't do chase anymore, b/c LO decided he wanted to be chased in dangerous places like parking lots)
-Dance Parties in the living room.

Indoor play centers for children basically save us.
DD has a ball pit and trampoline that she'll spend hours playing at. We also run around the house.
