what does your LO's "schedule" look like?

LO and I fly by the seat of our pants every day. Some days she'll take a few short cat naps. Other days she'll sleep for 4 hours straight. I  still feed her on demand, althought it's about every 2 1/2 hours. Nights are good overall. I want to try to structure the day a little more but it seems like it's just so different every day and I can't force her to be tired at certain times.

 What do you do?

Re: what does your LO's "schedule" look like?

  • It's always just so whatever... All I know is she likes to be in bed by 8 and will wake up anywhere between 11 and 3 to nurse and at that time she just sleeps with me. She has no particular nap schedule.

  • I'm a little different because I have an 18m old also, but here's our schedule.

    LO1 wakes at 630/7am -breakfast

LO2 wakes at 730/8am - change and feed

    830-10 - LO2 naps

    11 - feed LO2

    1130/12 - lunch LO1

    1pm - LO1 nap and feed/nap LO2

    4pm - feed LO2

    5pm - cook dinner

    6pm - LO1 dinner

    630 - LO1 bath

    7pm - feed LO2

    730pm - LO2 bedtime

    8pm - LO1 bedtime

LO2 wakes at least 1 time a night, can be around 230am or 430am, just depends. If he wakes at 230 then he wakes again at 5am. If he wakes at 4, the he eats at 7.

  • I feel so random, too.

I have learned that putting her down for her first nap no longer than two hours after she wakes up makes for a better napping schedule.

She naps around 830, 1230 and 4, with an 8 bedtime... but the naps are not consistent in length, just the general times I find she gets tired.

vnstacie... you are amazing. You have your schedule down like clockwork!

    Oh my gosh! Thank you!

I had that schedule with my toddler (well she used to nap twice!), the baby just adapted to her schedule, it was awesome!

  • My LO is like clockwork when it comes to feedings and naps. Which makes me feel very lucky. I'm sure that can change at anytime though. But here's his day....

    6:30-7:00AM- Wake up/eat/change

    9-10:30AM: Nap

11AM:Eat/change/play--this will be the time of day that he stays up the longest.

    2PM: Eat small bottle/take a short nap

    3:30PM:-Wakes up to eat/change/play

    4:00PM:short nap

5:30PM: Wakes up to eat, he will usually cluster feed until 7:30

7:00PM:Bath, PJ's, Read story, finish off bottle

    8:00PM: Bed

2-3:00AM: Middle of the night feeding

    AND REPEAT!

  • Our LO sleeps 6:30 - 6:30, usually waking once in the night to feed (time varies anywhere from 1 am to 5 am). I feed him when he wakes up at 6:30, and then again right before I leave for work at 8. He then usually has a bottle around 10, I come home to nurse him on my lunch break at 1, he has another bottle around 4, and then I nurse him and start bedtime routine at 5:45.

As far as naps, he will have one in the morning around 9-10, and then a longer one in the afternoon around 2-4. He will also have short cat naps in his swing, carrier, or dad's arms during the day.

The times do not stay the same every day, but it has the overall feel of a routine. We feed on demand and follow R's cues, and this is the schedule he pretty much set for himself.

  • We're also pretty random, but this past week I've started tracking when she eats and sleeps and that has helped me a lot.  And I follow the advice in a sleep book that says don't let them stay awake for more than 2 hours without napping, and don't let them sleep for more than 3 hours at a stretch during the day.

She usually goes down for a nap within 1-2 hours of first waking up, and usually has a long nap around 2pm. Other than that, just short 30 minute naps when I notice her yawning or getting a glassy-eyed look.  I feed on demand, and next week when I go to work her babysitter will feed on demand too.

  • Thanks everyone. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one without a schedule. I've been trying to track times, but havn't noticed a solid enough pattern yet. We will hopefully get there soon.
