My son is 15 weeks, I have been EPing since week 2. I produce enough that he only gets 2 bottles of formula in 24 hours. About 1.5 weeks ago he started spitting up and having a hard time burping after his formula bottles. He has always spit up a lot but now he was turning red and crying when he spit up from the formula, and just spitting up from the breast milk. My pedi said to try switching to Enfamil Gentlease instead of the Enfamil Infant. Well now he does really well on the Gentlease but is spitting up horribly and crying when he drinks even as little as 3 ounces of my breast milk. Doesn't matter if it is fresh or frozen. I'm really getting frustrated and upset with this, to the point I don't want to pump anymore. Any suggestions or words of wisdom?
Re: EPing and formula
My baby girl hated frozen BM. She would cry and refuse to drink it. I never found out why but I understand your frustration on feeding a screaming baby. I don't know if you have tried these but here are some suggestions.
-Mix formula with BM (of course only do a small amount at first to see if he takes it and so you don't have to waste a lot of BM)
-Could it be something that you are eating which is causing your son to dislike the BM? I know I cut out dairy
when I was EPing. But dairy, spicy food, caffeine, I think I even heard limited OJ because it can upset baby's tummy.
I wouldn't give up if its something that you really want to do. I would exhaust all resources before you give up. Maybe even talking with a lactation specialist might help. Good Luck!
