So, DS was diagnosed with bronchiolitis Wed. We started breathing treatments, but it appears to be getting worse. Anyone else have experience with this?
Also, a friend told me that bronchiolitis is the same as RSV and it seems that way online, but the nurse told me it wasn't. Anyone with experience with either thing?
Re: Bronchiolitis & RSV
We have dealt with both, the 2nd week he was born he was diagnosed with bronchiolitis. He was hospitalized 2 days after being diagnosed. It got way worse before it got better which the doctor said was normal. He was on breathing treatments and we had to get him suctioned out multiple times at the ER. The saddest thing to watch but it helped out tremendously so he could sleep easier at night. We also used a TON of saline drops. I've read as well that RSV and bronc. are the same but the doctors and our pediatrician said they are different. He was diagnosed with RSV 2 weeks ago, it did get worse for a couple days but then got better. He does cough every now and then but they said it is an after effect and completely normal. Good luck, hope your little one gets better very soon!!!
this. Sorry you are going through this, DS2 had it 2 weeks ago. He has gotten better but the cough is still lingering a bit. The pedi told me the cough could take up to 6 weeks to go away. We didn't have to do breathing treatment because is oxygen was still good, we just did humidifier, saline, boogie sucking and letting him sleep upright in the rock n play. She also said to look out for his chest sucking in when he was just breathing, kinda like it does when he would cough.
The day I took him in at 9am the pedi said he was the 3rd 2 month old that morning that she had seen with bronchiolitis and that one of them tested positive for RSV so that it was likely the cause. Our hospital is also under visitor restriction due to major flu and RSV cases and they canceled their weekly breastfeeding support group. It's a bad season for it and a real bummer. Hope your LO has a fast recovery!
Yup, like PP said, it will get worse before it gets better. My LO had it at 7weeks old but we caught it early and he never had to go to the hospital, but it did cause double ear infections so he had to get a shot of antibiotics and we went to the dr every two days for at least a week or two. He had 2 breathing treatments to take at home.
a helpful tip we got from a friend (nurse) is to lay the baby acrossed your lap after a breathing treatment and to pat their chest area (on their back) to help break up what's in their chest better. Also, if you notice their chest skin sink in between the rib cage, or go up under their ribs take them to the hospital immediately, it means they are having breathing problems and not getting enough air.
Praying for your lil one and hoping your LO is feeling better soon.
DS2 has had bronchilitis twice. The first time when he was 3 weeks old and the last time was a few weeks ago when he was hospitalized. The first time we did breathing treatments and antibiotics and it went away. The second time he had a viral infection on top of that and was hospitalized, but still had two different rounds of antibiotics. He tested negative for RSV; I am pretty sure they are different.
