Maybe this is a really silly question, but I'd like to be prepared. Baby B has INTENSE reflux. He spits up with every feeding (BM/ Formula..doesn't matter). It can be as little as a tablespoon or as much as 4+ ounces. Thanks to Zantac, he is now a very happy spitter upper and rarely has bouts of pain.
My question is: Is it common for babies to spit up the purees/ food/ cereal? My real reason for asking is worry for our clothes, his clothes, his brother's clothes, carpets, furniture, etc... He has spit up over EVERYTHING in our house. The milk stains are no big deal, as they come right out. But, I'm worried everyone and everything in our house will be covered with green and orange stains before the reflux resolves. Obviously, there's not much we can do about the issue. I'd just like to be prepared before the first orange explosion ruins our couch
.
ETA: Oh, and any good tips on getting stains out of couches? I figure I might need the advice!
Re: Ridiculous solids ?: Reflux
DD also has reflux but doesn't seem to spit-up the purees. Maybe just a couple of times when palying after eating. We waited to introduce solids until 6 months and started slow. She is very small so couldn't eat much at a time. Our pedi actually told us the solids should help reduce the amount of spit up because there is now something else in the tummy. We do not feed solids at the same time as bottles so that may cut down on the spit up too.
BTW- the reflux and spit up gets better. We thought there would be no end and would be doing laundry constantly. Over the last few weeks, since about 7.5 months things have gotten MUCH better, to the point that she barely spits at all. Maybe just a tiny bit with a forceful burp while bottle feeding. Hang in there!

Our pedi told us that the solids actually help to keep everything down. DD used to spit up a lot but almost never since about 6 months when she started eating solids every day (we started cereal at just past 5 months once a day, which helped a little, and then added purees from there).
The only thing to avoid would be acidic foods like citrus, tomato, and anything that has cinammon in it (it's a big trigger for reflux). Banana, pear and avocado are especially easy to keep down and recommeded for reflux babies, but go easy on the banana because it can bind things up at the other end too.
