MIL watching LO???

So tomorrow we are supposed to play golf and leave LO with MH's mom. She has met E one time, is very scatter brained, mostly crazy, and smokes like a chimney. And her even crazier sister will be there too, which I'm afraid will just distract her even more. This was all MH's idea, but I am so worried about it! MH says she raised him and his sister so she's obviously capable if taking care of a baby.

I can see why you would be concerned TJ. If she has only been with E one time I would be afraid that E would not feel comfortable with her. Maybe your DH would be willing to play it by ear & see how E is with your MIL before leaving. I hope everything works out for you.

My parents did (I think) a great job of raising me, but we still had times when we were visiting them (P was 18 months) and we had to remind my mother not to leave DS alone in the front yard while she ran inside to get her camera to take pics of him playing and my father not to turn his back on him to pull weeds from the garden while he was playing right next to the in ground pool! It was a scary reminder that our parents were parents a long time ago and (if it is the first grandchild like with my parents) they are out of practice. My point is that I think it is totally fine for you to be cautious and leave very specific directions. The fact that she is a chain smoker is also worrisome. In the end, if I knew I would be so worried that I would not have any fun then I wouldn't go. GL hon!

Oh, that's a tough one. I guess personally I'd give her a shot. A game of golf isn't too long. And if you come back and it didn't go well you have a legitimate reason to have her not babysit again. You never know she might surprise you.

That would make me nervous, too! But I guess if you already planned it with her, you can't really back out now. At least I couldn't with my MIL! I would hang out a little bit before leaving and see how it goes. And call throughout to check up. The whole smoking thing is concerning, she doesn't smoke inside, does she?

Thanks girls. We compromised and she is at least watching her at our hotel so no smoking inside. And probably no sister. And she's close enough for me to stop in if necessary, the hotel is on the golf course.

Well she survived. And so did I. She smells a little smoky, but I think it's just bc MIL's clothes all reek. I'm glad they got to spend some time together finally.
