Acting like a dog

I know it's pretty normal, but the part that DD has been imitating lately is peeing and pooping in the backyard. Today is the 2nd day in a row I have caught her doing it, and it honestly wouldn't bother me AS much if she would just pull her pants down. But really, I don't want her doing it at all, thinking it's acceptable behavior and then doing it at the park or something. I would die of embarrassment. Anyone have any advice on how to stop this? She is 2.5 and potty trained, but I really don't want her to be yard trained.

Re: Acting like a dog

  • My DD sometimes pretends to pee on signposts like the dog. It is pretty funny to me, but kind of embarrassing. I don't make a big deal about it, we just talk about how that is what doggies do and girls go in the potty. She is not potty trained.
It was a pretty short phase, she did it a lot for a week or two, but now it is really rare.

  • Luckily, I haven't made a deal of it yet, and I am hoping it is as shortlived as your LO's. It's just very frustrating to watch her pee her pants proudly because that's where the dog pees. I asked her why she didn't at least pull down her pants and she told me "The dog doesn't pull down her pants!" Love the imagination, hate the extra laundry :)

  • OMG, no advice, but this literally made me LOL. And I thought I had it bad b/c DD licks my face when she is playing puppy.

It was REALLY hard not to laugh at it, watching her and our dog just chillin and peeing together. Kids never cease to amaze me.

  • Oh dear, that is kind of cute though. I don't really have any advice other than my DD had an acting like a dog phase (crawling around on the floor and barking) for a few weeks and now we are on a lion phase. The lion phase is much more loud and dramatic.

Yeah, it can be cute, because our dog is like her best friend, but cleaning up is not so fun. She has been acting like a dog for a LONG time now, I just never expected that to happen haha.

  • Here I thought my DD smelling garbage cans with the dog on garbage day was embarrassing.  Luckily, DD's dog phase didn't last long (a couple of weeks at most).
