High-Risk Pregnancy

IC with Partial Placenta Previa

Hi All,

I've been lurking for a while and introduced myself sometime back (I think!) and am now looking for a little support.  I'm 18w 5d and had a cerclage placed back at around 13 weeks.  Due to my history I've had ultrasounds every week to continue to monitor my cervix as I'd previously began dilating at 18 weeks.  My us this week revealed a slight loss in cervical length (not a huge loss, nothing to impose further restrictions) but this time they said I have partial placenta previa.  First, I wonder if this is common and what happened with my previous pregnancy (I had a rescue cerclage placed at around 20 weeks and made it full term) due to the timing.  I've not had any spotting at all and the doctor doesn't seem to be worried but said that I may have to return to the specialist after my us next week.  Do the two go hand in hand?  Is this something anyone else is dealing with?  I've also heard that it can resolve on it's own.  I'm not looking for medical advice, just some positive stories to lift my spirits.  Thanks in advance :-)

Re: IC with Partial Placenta Previa

  • I don't think the one has anything to do with the other. I have placenta previa. I was diagnosed at 14 weeks with complete previa and since I have graduated to partial placenta previa. The OB told me that I had about an 86% chance of it resolving before I was due to deliver and since it was caught so early most like it was going to move since my uterus is still so small. Partial previas often resolve by the time it is ready to deliver.

  • I was told at 20 weeks that I had partial placenta previa. I went yesterday to have my follow up at 28 weeks, and it resolved itself. I was told 95% of the time it fixes on its own. Don't stress too much about it, the odds are in your favor :)

  • thanks ladies!  I appreciate hearing from you!  I was just told this yesterday and given no other information.  I just think you all tend to know more about what's really going on with our bodies!!

  • T&P that the previa resolves.  You still have some time, so hopefully it will move out of the way.
