Baby Showers

How far in advance should I send out invitations?

Our shower is scheduled for Sunday, April 7th...when should I start letting people know through invitations, calls/texts, and a FB event? We have friends who use all of these means of communication, so just curious how soon is too soon to start inviting people?

One mailed invitation sent by your hostess three weeks in advance should be sufficient.

  • Why would you be letting people know?

Typically the hostess will mail out invites anytime from 3-5 weeks out of the event.

There is no need to bombard guests with multiple alerts, especially if they would be coming from you, the GOH.

This! Don't do text, email, and definitely not FB. A shower is a more formal event and I would side eye anyone doing FB invites for one. A text or email is not a formal invitation. It is okay if the hostess wants to follow up with people that have not RSVPd, but not to be used to invite people. Its too much....

  • My shower is also on the 7th of April and my invitations are being prepared and sent next week... by my host.

People definitely need a few weeks notice. In regards to sending notices over FB, is this something commonly done in your circle of friends? A lot of people here on TB find this really tacky. However, in my circle of friends people tend to set up a FB event for anything from parties to baby showers and we use it to keep each other updated. So I would go by whatever is commonly accepted by the people who are invited to your shower.

I personally think that FB is tacky, but the biggest issue is contacting people in multiple ways. Pick ONE way to let people know about your shower. If I got an invitation and a FB message/event and a text I would be super annoyed. Let the hostess contact the guest once.

  • Thanks for the advice on HOW I'M sending my invitations out (which I NEVER asked for), but I'm still doing everything I said lol It is NOT a formal event...and I'm working WITH the person throwing my shower (Which she APPRECIATES AND asked for; not that it's ANYONE else's business)....good lord, I'm glad some of you ladies aren't coming to my shower...so picky and "socially correct". It's a damn baby shower not a presidential inauguration!!!

And to answer a previous poster's question - YES, the majority of my friends use FB invites for EVERYTHING (I've been invited to THREE baby showers via FB and have GONE TO ALL OF THEM). EVERYONE is online these days; what if someone thought a mail invitation was tacky? Did you ladies ever stop to consider that there are MANY forms of communication so that EVERYONE can be reached??? I just can't believe how snippy some of the moms on here are about HOW they received an invite. If the mode of transportation of your invite is causing a giant political stir inside you, I wouldn't want you coming anyhow. I have better things to do.
