Flying 4 1/2 hours with 13 month olds

Any suggestions? I'm kind of pissed that my husband is so set on going right now to visit family this far away. We will be closer in 4 months which would have meant the flight easier but ugh. They will be on our laps unless there is room on the flight and it isn't looking likely for the first flight. And of course the flight back, the only "non stop" flight has us flying all afternoon and getting back right at the girls' bedtime. Just great. Ugh.

  • Take a LOT of entertainment. We had snack out the wazoo, ipad loaded up with videos, lots of new books....We flew to DC from FLorida with the girls when they were about that same age. Not easy...

  • Just flew to FLorida in Jan with the boys (about 3.5 hour flight for us) and they were 13 months at the time....we had them in our laps and they were an absolute dream the whole time....My husband was SUPER stressed about it and I had to laugh because they were so good it was ridiculous...my boys love to read so I took a bunch of mini board books, lots of snacks as pp suggested, a few new small toys that had lights and whatnot to keep their interest but we didn't need them that much because they both fell asleep for a good portion of the flight (1.5 hours)...it was right around their nap time but they would not usually sleep in a stroller or anywhere but in their beds so this was a surprise! I hope you have the same experience! People give you lots of smiles and preferential treatment too for having twins :)

oh we also got seats in the VERY back and that was great because when they were getting a little rambunctious, less people got irritated. People do think twins are adorable...until they are crying on the flight. Then people are less amused :) I hear from friends all the time about their kids sleeping on flights...mine just didn't :(

  • We've flown frequently with the twins, and it always goes better than I imagine. Our most recent trip was with 18 month lap babies. It went fine. Lots of snacks, new toys they've never seen before, and sitting in the back more likely to have an unoccupied seat next to you.
