Ameda vs. Medela

I just got the breast pump from my insurance. I had asked for the Medela pump in style but they accidentally sent me the Ameda purely yours with tote.

My question is do I return the Ameda and get the Medela that I had ordered or is the Ameda just as good and I should keep it? I've read the reviews on both but all of my friends have only used the Medela so I'm not sure what to do. Any help would be great.

I'd keep what you've got. It's possible they're sold out on the Medela; a lot of insurance supply companies are WAY behind on pump orders.

I have the Ameda and love it, as do a ton of moms on here. There are just as many complaints about the Medela as there are the Ameda, which you'll get with pretty much anything. They're pretty comparable. I don't think there's a clear winner in either. I prefer the Ameda because it's a closed system which is more hygienic. The Medela is not. On the flip side, you can buy Medela parts at a lot of stores pretty easily. The Ameda parts you have to order online, at least where I live. I shop online a lot so that doesn't bother me.

I've been happy with my Ameda. I do miss the quiet hospital pump though. I agree with PP about the closed system.

I was wondering if the tote is anything special (has fitted divided compartments etc) or if it's just an anything carrying case?

The tote thing is just a carrying case. I just read it on the outside of the box. I haven't opened it so that if I do return it there wont be any problems. However, it sounds like it might be the better fit for me.

I got an ameda with DD1 and it lasted through over a year of regular pumping with her and so far is still hangin in with this baby after almost 5 months. I never had a medela to compare but I definitely like the ameda.

I wanted to like my Ameda but I had to replace the pump motor once and then still had issues. I finally bought a Medela and its much better!

Ameda is an excellent pump (I pumped for 11 months). And it is also a closed system. I would never get an open system like medela, which is known to have problems with mold in the motor.

Actually you can get Ameda parts at babies r us.
