Multiples

Today's appt

Both are head down b flips all the time so it's a tease when he's in position I'm scheduled for a c section bc ob thinks he will flip after a is delivered... Babes weigh 5.2 and 5.3. I know there can be so much variation, but hoping these are close to accurate.

  • Sounds like you're in a good place....how exciting! :D

  • Are you OK with having a C section even if A is head down come delivery day, or is the OB pushing you a bit on that? If you're OK then YAY! Things are sounding great.

Will your OB not try to turn B if he happens to flip after delivery of A?

  • OB won't flip B... So I would end up with double whammy. He's very conservative, however will leave it up to me if I want to try vaginal. It's torturous for me bc I had an easy delivery with DS...ugh

Ugh. That makes me mad on your behalf! My OB wouldn't attempt a breech extraction if B was breech, but she would've tried to turn him, which seems to be the norm based on what I've read here. How frustrating. It sounds like the double whammy is very, very rare and most OBs are able to turn a breech B, but if your doctor isn't giving you that option obviously your chances go up. That's tough!

I think I need to clarify with ob if he'll try to turn him. In a way I hope B goes back to breech so I don't have to second guess...

My ob said she's only had it happen once where they delivered A, then had to do a c section for B-but that it does happen.  So, she said if they are both head down she'll do vaginal, but if having both is a deal breaker then we should go ahead and do a c section.  I figure I'll make that decision when the time comes-but doing both would SUCK!

This sorta thing happened to me
My OB wanted to try turning Baby B...he was breech...but none of the other doctors in the practice would and if course my doctor was off the day the MFM wanted the babies delivered. It was all good though bc the CS went well and I also was kinda nervous to make the call bc I didn't want to give up on having a vaginal delivery w/ A head down, but really didn't want a double whammy. :/

Same thing for me. No one in my practice would have let me go vaginal, as Baby B was all over the place. But, my practice shared on call duties with another practice and that OB left it up to me. I hadn't even pondered a vag birth, so I just went with the c section. It was very easy and both babies did great. They also had IUGR, so i was terrified of the stress of labor on them. However, I do wonder if I could have had a vag delivery, as the OB said Baby B dropped right into position after she took A out.

  • It's a gamble...OB said 15 percent end up with double whammy. I'm not a gambler but csec scares me.
