I'm off to buy some steak...

DS cut a tooth! Finally - one tiny bit of tooth showing through his gum. We go for his 18 month appointment tomorrow, and I'm relieved that he has SOME visible proof that there are, indeed, teeth in there somewhere.

Hopefully once he gets a few teeth, I can introduce some new foods. Poor thing was trying really hard to eat some apple chunks today, and I finally made him spit them out because he wasn't making any progress (after at least ten minutes), and he couldn't go play on the playground if he still had apple in his mouth.

So here is a really dumb question: once a tooth cuts through (and I mean its barely visible), how long does it take to grow in? Days? Weeks? It's the top right center tooth that is coming in.

  • Yay for teeth!

I think DD's top front two teeth took a while to come in all the way, maybe two weeks?  But some of the others have come in quicker, less than five days for some.

It's usually pretty quick. Try steaming the apple chunks. I throw them in a bowl with water and a bit of cinnamon. Dd loves those.

We were actually eating out, and the apples were in his fruit cup. But do you put the apples directly in the water? I have (or had) a steamer basket to put in my saucepan and used to steam stuff that way, but I can't find the steam basket - it disappeared after the move. That sounds like a really dumb question - I'll blame my mother for not ever doing anything like that, so I didn't learn basic kitchen skillz.

  • HOORAY!!!!

And to answer your question, actually cutting the tooth is what takes the longest. Once the gum has been cut, it doesn't take very long for the tooth to completely come out (I'd say a week or less?)

  • Yippee!! A toof!

It varies from kid to kid, but some teeth have taken a few weeks and some have taken a few days.
